Second week of February, met Daniel Parker of sunshineserpents.com who took my sister and I on a trip thru the sugar cane fields south of Lake Okechobee. Considering the temps barely reached the 60's, we felt we still saw a good amount of herps. One other lizard we saw but I didn't get a picture of was a Tropical House Gecko from Africa. So of the three lizards we saw, two were invasive; the green anole is the only native. This area is slated to be converted back to the everglades by the gov't which according to Daniel is not a good thing for the snakes. You see the snakes, especially the florida king (one of the few places they are abundent) have it good here for they live between the canals that drain the fields and the fields themselves. There is a never ending food supply. Turn it back to wetlands which it was before the 1950's and we change the whole ecological balance again. Was a great trip. I highly recommend Daniel as a field guide.
