From the hotter side

Haven't made any updates in a long time so I figured I would go ahead and get around to it since everybody is getting to so big. Princess the forest cobra is now about 4ft and still rapidly growing. I still hold this snake above all others for her personality and intelligence that I have not witnessed in many other snakes species that I have worked with or kept. I always heard stories about Forests' and their keen awareness but I have to say it is pretty unique once witnessed in person on a daily basis.

:dgrin:

So beautiful and elegant. I think if I were brave enough to keep hots, I would have a forest cobra. I love the black and gold look.

She is beautiful!
That is one thing that I really like about Cobras (aside from beauty) ... they do exhibit that "certain intelligence".
Never been around a Forest Cobra but have been around some others. Love 'em but will not keep hots ... Am happy enough to just live vicariously through those who do.;)

Thanks for the compliments. One example or her unique behavior is back in January I added an LED light to the inside of her cage to give it a little back lighting. As soon as I finished and put her back in the cage she immediately made her way to the light and checked it out from every angle. She ended up not liking the light and hissed and puffed at it for several hours into the night and I finally just yanked it out to satisfy her lol.

Very pretty. Cobras have never interested me to keep but I've certainly heard enough stories to verify their intelligence. There is something very different about hots though. My copperhead is so different from my other snakes in behavior and how he watches everything I do. My newest eyelash is totally different in personality from my old one. Very squirrely and much more aggressive than my old one. I'm supposed to be picking up a neotropical rattlesnake in June at the Columbia show who's also got an attitude....it would be nice to have one stupid mellow hot in the house!

Forgot to ask: Is your cobra transitioned to eating mice or are you having to feed snakes?

This one pounds mice no problem and most Naja will unless they are WC.
My forest is stupidly mellow definitely not what you would expect but she is a CBB so that plays a big roll. she will not hood for me unless I prod her for a while it took me about 15 minutes to get those hood shots. Really like those Neo Croats you must post pics :D I have been wanting some Central/South American ssp. for a while but just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I need to check when the next Columbia is so I can make some plans after my vacation in July.

I'll post if I get him. The show's in June and I told the guy that if he doesn't sell him at this show I'll buy him. I should have picked him up at the last show but didn't want to piss off the hubby. Turns out he wouldn't have cared! Go figure!

Your cobra is lovely. I've been fascinated by them since I was a kid, reading Kipling's Jungle Book stories (the story about the old, blind cobra in an ancient ruins of some past king). I love seeing them in photos, but I wouldn't ever own one. I just wouldn't want to take the chance of being bitten by one. So, yeah, I love your beauty, and I hope you'll share more pix of her as time passes, 'cause I LOVE her beautiful face!

Heh that figures hope ya get him this time round. I may have to make a trip down to the show even though its close to my vacation time.

Nope not the same species as the infamous Bronx escapee, that was a Banded Egyptian cobra as seen below. Yet another one of my wants. lol

Worth the trip. One of the few places you can get hots at a show. Anything and everything.
