Frost Update

Last month I think it was I posted about the Abscess I was having problems with on my male blizzard corn. Welp, it's been another 2.5 weeks since he fed (or from whenever it was that I posted in my last thread about him eating) and the abscess is STILL open like it was in the picture I put up. (will link the thread) It's closed over once, but the puss just keeps building back up and forcing me to clean it back out, aka open the wound. I feel like I'm gaining no ground on this. He has had a second full round of antibiotics and the doctor, who has been treating snakes for 30 years, seems to be certain the bacteria we are battling is a mutated antibiotic-resistant strain. There is a VERY real chance I will either be a: Battling an open wound for the rest of Frost's known life with it never healing, or b: Watching my beloved boy die. I have no issue with taking care of him as long as his quality of life doesn't go down the tubes, but the vet can't do anything more for him. He can't stitch the wound with the puss building up like it does, and antibiotics aren't working.

Any more suggestions? I am soaking him in Betadine / water mix (so it's a dark tea color) every day, and only dressing the wound with Furisan (anti-biotic cream for animals) every other day.

This is making me very sad... :(

I am so sorry to hear this. I was really hoping for a quick recovery for your boy. I just wanted to send my good thoughts your way. Have you tried natural oils? I use aromatherapy (essential oils) to help heal my wounds, I don't know about using them on snakes, but I have used them on my cat, dog and rats with much success. Something like lavender or tea tree would probably help.

The problem is the wound itself doesn't have an issue scabbing / healing over, but it's the abscess beneath the skin itself that has problems with healing. Puss shows up about 2 inches behind the hole as soft bumps. I can actually gently manipulate the bumps and it squishes all that puss out of the hole. I then gently wash the cavity left behind with Betadine. It takes 3 to 4 days befor eit all builds back up again. It's veyr frustrating. :(

Well when the cultures get back (which shouldn't take too long, maybe a couple of days) then the vet can find what ABT will fight the infection and Frost should heal. That would be awful if you had to deal with that wound his whole life. Good luck and keep us updated!
