Frosty has mouth problems

He is our blizzard and has a problem with his lower jaw. We think it could be mouth rot but aren't sure. We looked in his mouth but it doesn't look like what my mom found on the internet. Here are some pics of it. Opinions would be greatfully appreciated.

Go to a vet asap. I've never seen mouth rot first hand, so I can't tell you for sure that's what it is, but it doesn't look like it's going to fix itself. Good luck.

Could that be a burn or blister/scab from rubbing something in the enclosure? I also have not seen mouth rot first hand, but infections spread quick in reptiles so you should probably take the above advice and see a vet.

Oh my gosh. That looks really nasty. :( There's definitely an infection going on in there. It's discolored.

Is it open/moist or is it scabbed over? It looks open. This is definitely a vet thing. Don't wait until it's too late. Don't worry about the costs. Just go. I hope to God it's something minor.

Were you able to see the inside of his mouth at all? That should tell you whether it's mouth rot or an external injury on the "lips".

I couldn't find any good pictures of snakes, but here is a skink with mouth rot:

Seriously, go to the vet before it gets worse. Not only is his mouth a dirty place, but he's swallowing pus and bacteria. :(

To me, it looks like a case of rubbing. Has he been pressing against any mesh, or really just pressing/rubbing anywhere? Look up "nose rubbing", or something to that effect. I would say get to a vet so they can recommend a good antibiotic preventative treatment.

Well we looked in his mouth and it was clean we also talked with and sent pictures to the old president of the herps. society out here and he said it didn't look like mouth rot but a rubbing sore and suggested an antibiotic and peroxide. Thx

I wouldn't rush to a vet, but a betadine wash will either help quickly or a vet would be my next option. Remove any abrasive surface he might rub upon and keep things a tad dryer than usual -even only offering water every other day. Good luck.

Edit, answered by OP.

Thank God it wasn't mouth-rot!
Looks like Robbie was right! :duck:

Let us know how he's doing! He's a lovely snake. :)
