Frozen Food Prices In The UK?

Petsnakes

Hi Guys,

Just wondering what sort of prices people in the UK are paying for their frozen food and which suppliers are recommended?

I'm currently paying as follows......

Pinkies - 16p

Fluffs - 20p

Small Mice - 30p

Medium Mice - 40p

Monster Mice - 60p

Small Rat - 80p

Medium Rat - 80p

Large Rat - 90p

Delivery is £21.15

Are there any recommended (and reliable) suppliers in the UK who can beat this?

Bye for now,

Jim

I cant help you with suppliers, but I pay £4 for 10 medium mice from my local reptile shop.

Those prices are really rather good Jim! If the supplier is reliable and the stock is good then i would stick with them to be honest. There is likely to be another shortage of frozen food pretty soon - we are having problems with large rats, and i have heard through the grapevine that adult mice supplies are going to run pretty low soon.
- Also some of those prices are better than i pay at trade, but i have had some cr@p sent through from other suppliers i had to throw away! My advice - stick with what you trust!

i pay 13p for pinks, thats for 1000 though.
18 for fluffs, which is also done in bulk
35 for large, bulk etc
thats all i use, i find the sizes of small and mediun very inconsistent, so i have started feeding 2 fluffs until they are big enough to take large... te fluffs are quite big, bigger than most 'small' i have used in the past lol

Those prices are really good I think, where do you get them from? At the minute I'm paying £1.50 a prey item!! (Weaner rats) but I buy them 2 at a time from my local pet shop. I would like to buy online, but the bulk prices tend to only start at about 100 items - I want to buy about 20 at a time or so.

Hi,

I use Simons Rodents too.

Don't get the 13p rate because I don't order over 500 mice at a time. Bah!

Bye for now,

Jim

Those prices seem pretty good. My frozen food is fairly expensive in relation - I pay something like £1.00 each for Connor's medium adult mice and about £1.50 each for Chester's large rats. The food is good quality, though, and I don't have enough snakes to want to buy in bulk online.

The prices you quoted look good - think you'd be hard pressed to find cheaper really. :)

Jim

What are the small med and large rats like????
Is small, a weaner?
Dont they do rat pups or fuzzies???

I get mine from a friend... prices are pretty comparible really

Not sure exactly what I pay so far, Im still buying multiple items as I learn & improve the vivarium. Yesterday I bought a book (Don Soderberg one) @ £8-95, a climbing vine @ £11 + and 6 fuzzies & the bill was £23+, so the fuzzies must have been around 50p each. local shop is Nottingham Reptile Centre.

Hi Denise,

I only listed the stuff that I ordered.

The quality of the rats is very good.

Here are the prices...

Rat Pups 10g £0.25
Rat Fluffies 11g – 25g £0.30
Rat Weaners 26g – 75g £0.50
Small Rats 75g – 150g £0.60
Medium Rats 150g – 350g £0.75
Large Rats 300g – 450g £0.90
Giant Rats 450g £1.00

Just remember to add the £21.15 delivery charge when working out the cost.

This could make all the difference when deciding if it's cheaper than a local supplier.

Bye for now,

Jim
