frozen mice after 4months...

hi, i have been told that after 4 months you should not use frozen mice any more, so what actually happens to them, do they become dangerous to your snake? or do they just loose their nutritional value? do they rot or what?
thanks

As long as the original package is still vacuum sealed they will last longer than 4 months. IMO, the only factor will be the effects of freezer burn. As long as your snake is willing to eat the mouse without turning up its nose, you should be fine. :)

I've used mice that have been vacuum sealed and frozen for longer than 4 months, and I have never experienced any problems.

Having said that - if I had mice that looked damaged from the freezing process, I would not be using them.

Equally, if they had undergone any complete or partial that due to a freezer mal-function/power cut etc. I wouldn't use them.

I do believe that they may lose some nutritional value with time, but I have yet to read the proof of this, it is just my belief,

Skye

Because of the quantities that I deal with, I routinely order 4-6 months worth of food at a time to take advantage of price breaks. Based on my experience, the mice are fine as long as the bag is sealed and its contents haven't been defrosted.
