Funeral for a Frog

My son found a drowned frog (toad?) in an empty flower pot this evening. I assume he was drowned. His tongue was swollen clean out of mouth and his eyes were open. The little thing (about an inch) is a greyish colour with some tiny black spots. Cute little guy. His poor body was so water-logged and swollen to clear.

I wanted to call him Michigan J. ("Hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal...")

My son (aged 6) reckoned him a "Jewish-Unitarian" chap, so we had a little Unitarian service for him and read the Kaddish.

My 9 year-old wanted him to be Hindu so she sang "Raghupati." (The neighbours already think we're daft, I'm sure.)

We interred him and then came inside for tea cakes and iced water.

If my digital camera was working, I would take a photograph and post it, poor thing.

Sounds like an oddly sweet afternoon. Sorry you had to find him too late, but nice that you and your children gave him a dignified end.

I agree... and thanks for sharing this somewhat sad story... Its a good thing your kids were thoughtful enough to want to give him a proper goodbye...
