Funniest Dog Video

I hate to be a party pooper, but I don't think that video is funny at all. It's never funny when a dogs behavioral or psychological problems causes it to hurt itself.

I never really considered that and I agree, but is it hurting itself? It really looks like it's controlling it, I don't know I thought it was more like a dog that chases it's tail...although I know that that can turn into a neurological problem as well?

I agree, I don't see the dog hurting itself at all, and yes I thought it was funny.

While not physically hurting itself yet, it is rather clearly causing emotional distress to the dog. It can also progress into something less harmless. We had a cat at my work that had some similar neurologic issue with its tail, and it progressed to the point that it full on attacked and the tail had to be amputated.

Yeah, that poor dog in the video has something going on neurologically; I've never seen it so severe before.

I have a 12-year-old Beagle with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. He self-mutilates by pulling the hair off of his front legs and his tail. He does it to the point that he bleeds, but doesn't seem aware of pain. He also will stand and stare at the wall for up to 15 minutes at a time. He has started pacing in circles; he will do this continually unless I distract him.

The vet put him on Anipryl and Xanax. His symptoms were controlled for over a year, but he is now getting worse. The vet said I should start thinking about euthanizing him; his bad days are starting to outnumber his good ones.

I think it's just a matter of time before it draws its own blood, really. And like Shiari said, it's obviously distressed.

I don't think it's funny when a dog growls and bites at a person or another dog, so why would I think it was funny when it growled and bit at itself, you know?

I'm such a party pooper. :C

All I can say it I honestly thought of it as playing, but now that I look at it closer I agree that it may be causing itself distress. Will it actually hurt itself and draw blood, I don't know and I don't know how anyone else could.
As far as growling and biting, my dog growls and bites playfully with myself and other dogs, and I do find that funny, very funny at times, of course there is a distinction between play/roughhousing and the real thing, but I can still laugh when I know it's not real.
