Gaelic Translation

I know this is a longshot and has absolutely nothing to do with reptiles...

But is there ANYONE here who can translate two short phrases into Irish Gaelic for me?

"strong shoes"

and

"in the palm of His hand"

And possibly direct me to a site where I can download a free Gaelic font? :shrugs:

I know a few phrases of Scottish Gaelic... but Irish is completely different :p

I want to make sure I use the Irish dialect. My maiden name is Branigan. I'd hate to tattoo a Scottish phrase on my foot and have my Irish relatives shun me. :grin01:

yeah the Irish tattoo police don't look to kindly on it either

it's either 20 years in prison or a 10 dollar fine...i can't remember which

Or they might just cut off my foot. :sidestep:

But come on...wouldn't it suck to get a tattoo of a phrase in a different language, and then have someone who actually speaks the language tell you it's totally wrong? Or worse...that it doesn't mean what you thought it did? :eek1:

I always wonder about those symbol tattoos...Chinese symbols, tribals, etc. What if what you thought meant "Peace and Love" actually translates into "Skanky Ho" or "I'm With Stupid" or "Idiot Tourist"??? :grin01:

Anyway, I figured it out. Hopefully I'll have photos in a couple of weeks. :)

no you got the irish police mixed up with the superman ride of steel...

uh oh....it might be too soon to do that joke...let's go to the judges...

no??? it's ok???? it's ok on account we found out the girl is ok

strong shoe is tréan bróg

idiot tourist is amadán turasóir

idiot tourist is both masuline so you lucked out there

Hmm...

I was told "Bróga Láidre" for strong shoes...the guys who gave me the translations said that was general Irish. :shrugs:

Argh. I hate when there are 3 spellings for one word. :bang:

And if anyone is wondering why I would get a tattoo of a phrase as stupid as "strong shoes", it actually comes from an Irish blessing: "If God sends you down a stony path, may He give you strong shoes".

So it's not quite as goofy as you might have thought.

Now Now Jennifer...we may think your a bit nuts but not because of the tattoo .That makes perfect sense and is really quite cool ! It was that post about phobias a while back that made me think you were a bit nuts :)
