Garter snake vs. toad

HeavenHell

My mom took the following photo yesterday in my sister's backyard.

So what was the outcome? Toad 1, Garter Snake 0. As you probably guessed, the Gartner snake never was able to swallow the toad. I think it would have been a struggle even if the snake had grabbed it head first.

When I had some garters and they ate toads occasionally, they always ate them backwards, and I was surprised at what they were able to get down.

Ya.....

Garters seem to be very optimistic.....

You'd be surprised. The toads and frogs are so "squishy" that they squeeze right down. I had a Sierra Garter that regularly ate small, recently transformed bullfrogs, and she could eat 6 or 8 Pacific treefrogs in a single sitting. Of course...she was a glutton, so...:shrugs:

That is really neat that your mom had the chance to watch wild predation. Very cool!

I'm not sure if I should have rooted for the snake or the toad in this. I like them both!
