General Update

I just wanted to post an update. I read countless hours on this forum over the last few months because I found myself an owner of a new corn snake back in May. I found a ton of good info here and I think I got my setup tweaked properly, with a UTH, thermostat, warm side, cool side, appropriately sized and daily changed water bowl, hides on both sides of the tank.

I suppose the proof is in the pudding. So far the snake is doing fantastic. He was a healthy, good feeding juvenile when I got him. He weighed about 20 grams. I weighted him before the last feeding and he was 38 grams. He's notably larger, has shed 3 or 4 times since I got him.

I really enjoy the little guy, he pokes his head out every evening from various places in his cage. I handle him a couple times a week and he's nice and tame. He loves to be fed and it's very entertaining for the family to watch him eat.

I'm considering getting another one to keep in my office at work assuming it wouldn't upset the creature to be taken home 3 or 4 times a year (christmas, thanksgiving, spring break and summer). I could alternate creatures that spend a semester where I work.

I just want an excuse to get another one lol. I also got a leopard gecko last time I went to a reptile show, it's hard to go to one and not come home with a new friend. I really like the gecko, but I have to say that the snake is way less maintenance, so if I get anything else it will be another snake.

Anyhow, I'm so glad for all the advice and information at this forumn. I hope to have continued success with my cornsnake pet :)

Awww! yeah, snakes are much less maintenance. I keep telling my mom that snakes are way less upkeep, but she still says no *sigh*

I wish I could have a snake at my work!

Once you have an adult, the snake should be fine to just leave in place at your work for holidays of two weeks or less. The only thing I would worry about is leaving the heat unattended- I would unplug it, if the building temp stayed in the 70s. And it shouldn't disturb a snake much to be transported around, although I'd avoid feeding him during that time period.

I'm pretty sure your office snake won't be bothered by taking him some now and then, if not at all when you take him home in its own viv. Must be fun to have a snake at work, can't imagine that being allowed at my work.

LOL Kate, your mom sounds like mine. I told her about the rack system I'll be building and she looked at me and said "Aww, don't they get bored in there." she's not keen on them but it cracks me up.
