Hi all, I'm finally getting back into owning a snake. I had some during my first marriage but got rid of them during the divorce.

I will be going to Hamburg in Sept to purchase a corn now that I have the tank set up.

The question I wanna ask is... Which do you prefer....

Pantherophis or Elaphe

Welcome to the forum, Ed. :)

I don't understand the poll question. Are you asking which genus name I would prefer to be applied to corn snakes? Or are you asking if I prefer new world rat snakes to old world rat snakes? I guess I can still vote, because my answer is the same either way: Pantherophis. :)

Well I've always know cornsnakes as Elaphe but, know i see alot of sites listing them as Pantherophis. What is the correct Genus? or is this an ongoing battle. :argue:

Elaphe remains the accepted genus, though I believe it inappropriate for American snakes. Old World rat snakes should retain Elaphe while New World rat snakes, including corn snakes, should be reclassified as Pantherophis. The rat snakes of Asia and Europe obviously differ from rat snakes in the Americas, and the snakes should never have been placed in the same genus.

Elaphe is the accepted genus; Pantherophis has been suggested. Many hobbyists, however, have already taken to using the latter.
