Getting concerned

Starting to worry about Mica. He's the 2g runt that I got from Shed'n My Skin. He was hatched on 7/21 which makes him 2 weeks old. He still hasn't shed yet despite spraying his tub and several soakings. His skin looks krinkly/wrinkled. Not dehydrated wrinkly more like the top layer is pulling the other layers. He's been clear since I picked up on the 26th.

Not sure what else I can do. Any ideas?

Thanks

bump...still need help with this.

Any idea of shed-aid would be safe to use on him. The krinkly skin looks really uncomfortable.

I assume you've tried putting him in a container with just enough water in the bottom that he can put his head above it for 20 or 30 min? I don't know if I'd use chemical shed aids on him, if he's only 2g, but I could be wrong on that.

Since I just reread your post and saw you'd already soaked him, maybe running him through some damp paper towels or putting a damp hide in his container?

Make him a mini-moist hide out of one of those little Gladwares with the screw on top? I made one for tiny Jasmine, with a hole cut near the top and one near the bottom on the opposite side, filled with moss. She loves it in there.

Hmm. Maybe try letting him hang out in a damp pillow case for a bit and then try running him through some rough towels or dry paper towel? It's what I did to help get Jasper's first shed off completely...

I have used a reptile shedding aid by zoo med. I had to use repeat it 3 times before getting good results. I would use a warm bath, then let it run through a warm wet wash cloth or small towel. Worked better then shed aid. Hope that helps.

It really seems odd. All the clutchmates shed over a week ago. They were shedding around the day you came over to get him and most of them within 2-3 days of that. I'm wondering if he/she shed while still here and I somehow missed it or he ate the shed? (I have actually had this happen before) However the crinkly skin does sound like an imminent shed.
I'd try the damp hide idea suggested by Nanci and continue to try getting him to eat as well.

I've seen my littlest one so crinkley I actually thought she was going to die. I held her over her water bowl and she drank and drank and drank and drank...She was blue at the time, and had gone into her hide apparently without drinking, and then was too blue to move. Is yours thirsty?

Thought I'd dig up these old pictures... This snake is Mica's sibling from last year... Maybe it runs in the family?

Nice. Another bit of proof of cannibalism in hatchlings. He was thinking he was having a nice snakey meal! "But wait! I didn't order the lite version!!"

I posted this back when it happened... I always thought it was maybe a way to "hide the evidence" so nothing can find and eat them. Nom nom lol

Thanks for all the suggestions :) I had been questioning if we could have missed the shed, hadn't thought about them eating (...the lite version :lmao: ) it.

I had been misting his tub twice a day, but I'm starting to get an occasional click and I'm concerned about the constant humidity causing an RI. I've soaked him several times, but still no shedding. :headbang:

I had assist fed him a mouse tail last weekend and he pooped it out yesterday. I discovered that my t-stat had stopped working and the mats were all cold and probably had been for a few days of that though. I tried assist feeding a 1/4 pink :puke01: but he just kept spitting it out. I'll try a fuzzy leg on Saturday.

Guess I'll keep soaking him every other day or so and I'll hunt down some moss this weekend to make him a moist hide.

Thanks for the support, helps that I'm not alone in this.

I would try the smallest pinky's head you can find, and leave it with Mica overnight.
I also managed to tease feed a runt last year, after he latched on to the head and started swallowing I cut the rest of the pinky's body off... Ewww the things we do for our babies!

Also do you remember if I checked the napkin he was staying on for a shed when I packed him up? Maybe it was in there? I can't remember if I put that napkin in the deli with him or chucked it now.

I tried a pinky head and left it in until I went to bed (about 4 hours) but since wouldn't be able to remove it until the next evening I didn't want to leave it over night. He moved to a different hide to get away from it though.

I tried tease feeding and he just crawls away.

The tail worked best so far since it was stiff enough to get into the back of his mouth. I think the 1/4 pink didn't work since it was squishy and just wanted to ball up.

hmmm, we had chicken tonight. Maybe I'll decapitate a pink, get it really hot and rub it with a piece of chicken skin and see if sparks any interest.

You're right...the things we'll do :)

Oh yeah...we tossed the napkin. Neither of us thought to look in it. But with his extra krinkly-wrinkly skin I don't think he's shed. I'll try to find my camera and get a pic of him.
