Ghost or Lavender?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board, and to looking after corn snakes. I'm waiting to get my first snake, and have been looking up various morphs so I can decide what it is I want. I found one I really fell in love with on the Serpenco website. I've attached the picture. I just love the colours and pattern! A really beautiful specimen. I am not really fussed on the pastel marking on some of the others so that one stood out to me!

However, I am living in Northern Ireland which means that delivery costs would be surely quite high and I am uncertain of how well a little snake would do on that sort of journey!

However, there are 1 or 2 breeders over here of lavenders, and ghosts. I like both morphs but am looking to find something as similar to that one I fell for as I can get.

My question is this.. what do I ask for? What would be a reasonable price to pay for something like that? Will the colours and patterns change dramatically with age? Is there a vast difference in the appearance of the ghost and lavender? Ghosts are probably easier for me to get my hands on but I just have a soft spot in my heart for lavenders :)

Love your logic there...!
Don't have space to start a collection lol. I'm a student so I'm in rented accommodation and also live at home in the summer and I think my father would have issues with 1 snake, never mind 2 ;)

I guess you understand the spots down the back go with the name motely. So if you like that you definitely want to specify motely wether it be ghost or lavender.

Ghosts and Lavenders look very similar when babies. As they grow older, the Ghost will get more of a grey or silver color. It will also get some yellow around it's head, throat, chin area.

Lavenders will get more of a lavender color as they age.

Both are great choices. I don't know the prices on your side of the pond but lavender will probably be a little more than ghost. Motely will be a little more than normal.

I would luuurrrve a lavender but they cost well over £100!

My ghost was £70 (shop owner bought him from a breeder) and my snow was £47 (shop owner bred).

Snakes in this country are more expensive than the US cos there aren't as many breeders around/ not as common.

You should be able to get a lavender from a breeder in the uk
this year for £70 ish, they have come down a good bit in price.

If your looking a lavender give me a shout,I've bred serpenco
lavenders with various hets this year including a lavender,hypo,blood-red.
I should also have a few ghosts.

I wud def be interested in a lavender if the price was right! Though I just mentioned to my dad that I was getn a snake and he pointblank said no. Hmm. Didn't get much chance to explain why I wanted one but when my first reason got the response "I don't care" I didn't think it best to pursue the issue. I'll not be livin at home over term time (I'm in uni) but I wud be durin the summer and obv have to think ahead. Pretty down bout the idea of not getn one, will have to put my case forward again somehow. Still, will keep researching and educating myself. So keep posting and answerin my queries please!

ghosts/lavenders

Well ghosts used to be the poor mans lavender ,but there are some ghosts that make lavenders look very drab.If your looking for a more of a grey snake most lavenders turn out that way!

That's what was throwing me. I've seen some images of stunning ghosts and not so nice lavenders. But it was the lavenders that really made me go "yes that's what I want". Ghosts can be pretty but it's hard to tell whether they will go more brown or grey. I am inclined to think a lavender wud be the way to go... if the issue previously stated is sorted..

Just txted my dad as he's out, saying "Which would you prefer... a wee snake to look after and keep me company, or a hairy biker dude?" I am still waiting for a reply... ;)

What wrong with hairy biker dudes :smash:

Can you pretend it's an extra large snail? I've had snails through the post for my fish tanks... :p

Oh no, snakes are always better than hair biker dudes. My daughter married one for a little while. (Which you say) Same same, either way.

Oh I don't know Wade, I used to hang around with hairy biker dudes in my misspent youth, great fun out on the bikes and plenty of protection from human snakes!
