Ghost variations

I am pretty new when it comes to breeding but I have a fairly good idea of how genitics work. I have read a lot. I bred an anery male with no known hets to a female lavender het anery. All 11 eggs hatched. I had 7 normals, 3 anerys, and one that I think is a ghost. I didn't get any hypos but the odds kind of make sense if both of the parents were het hypo. It is very light in color and people I know around me think its a lavender but I think it looks nothing like the ones I've seen and if the male was het lavender I should have had more then 1 (even tho the odds are not very accurate) I have seen lots of pictures of ghosts that look like they have these colors. Can you please share your thoughts.

If the light in that second picture is accurate, your baby has blue eyes + ruby pupil, which means it could well be a lavender. There's a pretty big variety in appearance in them, from what I've seen. Been doing a lot of looking myself as I have babies that have stumped me too.

You are right about the eyes which had me thinking because I read that those eyes were common in lavenders. His moms eyes are dark. His colors just seem so different then lavender hatchlings I've seen. Do you know how common these eyes are in other morphs? Maybe I'll just have to wait for him to grow.

Indeed. So it may very well be a ghost. :)

Oh genetics. So much fun and so confusing.

It does appear to be a ghost but never give up hope. Here is Lavender we hatched out a years ago that looked nothing like I thought a lavender would look like(at the time).

I missed the picture, I just woke up. That is definetly a different looking lavender. So hard to tell when surprise genetics pop up, I have enough time telling hatchlings apart when I know the genes at play.

Yep and after re-looking at those peachy colored looking cheeks, I'd say ghost for sure.... Just hit the 1 in 8 chance of a ghost popping out :)

Thats what I was thinking, having one in eleven hatchlings makes sense for those odds but in order for a lavender the father would have to be het lavender. If he is het lavender my odds should have been 25% normals 25%anerys 25%lavenders 25%moonstones.
To only get one lavender morph when I should have 50% either lavender or anery/lavender doesn't make much sense to me.

Well remember it is only a percentage "chance". For instance, the clutch I have hatching right now: 6 eggs... father Anery Stripe(sunspot) unk hets... mother Normal vanishing pattern, het anery amel hypo ph caramel. We got 5 normal stripes and 1 anery stripe. It should of been 50/50 right? What you actually get is a coin toss. And it looks like heads popped up 5 times out of 6 for me ;)

Yea I definetly know that the odds don't mean much sometimes but 1 out of 11 is a really bad day at the casino which is one of the reasons I was leaning towards ghost rather then lavender. I will only know for sure with some more time.

Yeo, I had a whole clutch this year where the ghost babies had the blue and red eye, after a few sheds they are what you would expect of a ghost. So I'm gonna go with ghost here.

this guys eyes looked very blue when he hatched and after two sheds they already look quite different
