Giving an injection to a snake. Respitory infection.

So The female Motley butter snake I have had for over a year and was planning on possibly breeding this spring ( She is 5 y/o and weighed in at 590 grams) was wheezing and refused to feed. I brought her to the vet and sure enough they said it was a respitory infection, which I had guessed it was. They prescribbed her a muti-spectrum antibiotic. They gave me a feeding tube and enough antibiotic for 8 injections.

I have to tube feed her 10 ml of water the day before I give her the injection. The injection amount is .06 ml.

I am just very worried about all of this. Has anyone ever had to do this before? Can any one give me any advice or tips?

She is a wonderful snake and I don't want to loose her!

Thanks for your help.

Did the vet show you how to tube feed and give the injections? Is the injection supposed to be subcutaneous, intramuscular, etc? I really hope they gave you a demo on where and how to do everything before they sent you home.

The vet had me do the tube feeding while we were there and then had me do 3 test injections with saline on my poor snake So she knew I was comfortable with it. She probably feels like a pin cusion. It is an intramuscular injection once every 3 days. I am comfortable doing it, just worried that I will do more harm then good. I know reptiles and antibiotics don't mix well.

I've done it on a number on occasions..
Two people are required to do it properly.....
Just choose a different spot each time you inject and everything will be fine..
BTW.. I found a catheter into the lung and Amikacin AB blown in works better..
Broad spectrum AB didn't work as well IMO...
I know of an alternative RI treatment that works extremely well....
Alternative RI treatment
