Going on holiday?

My girlfriend and I own a snake together but we're going on holiday on the 25th of July for one week. As you might know from my other posts the snake is difficult to feed and although the breeder fed it once over 2 weeks ago, we haven't been able to get him to eat yet :( Anyway, our family are happy to change water etc of the snake, but he won't be handled for the whole week, is that ok? And also if we don't manage to feed him by then he probably won't be fed in that time either. Our other option if that's not ok is snake 'boarding' that's advertised in a local pet shop (not a chain). They look after your snake whilst you're away. Is this advised? Please let us know what we should do!

Just my personal opinion but I would never board my snake at a pet shop! You do not know if their animals are healthy, you do not know if they have mites, you do not know if they will keep all new animals in quarantine(yours included) to make sure no animal is sick or gets sick, you do not know if the have good hygene(wash/antibacterial hands between each reptile they touch) there are just so many what if's.

If you are only gone for a week or so, and someone making sure there is sufficient water supply, and checking temps your snake should be ok, they can handle missing a meal or so. The bigger concern is how long since your snake ate and can you get it to eat again. The snake will not mind the lack of being handled, most prefer not to be handled, they are solitary animals anyway.

He'll be fine for a week. Especially if you have someone checking water and temps. Don't board him at a pet shop, and if he's not handled for a week, the snake won't care one bit.

Thanks everyone, we'll see how he goes with feeding then and if he doesn't by the time we go then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. He still seems pretty active without feeding so he should be ok- just he's not eaten for 3 weeks this friday so we're worried about him.
