Going out of town

I am thinking of getting another snake, and one issue my parents have is driving me the 30 minutes to the reptile store where I board my reptiles when we go out of town.

We are rarely gone for long periods of time so this is a smaller issue, but I figured I'd ask. I'm wondering what do you do when you go out of town? Do you feel comfortable leaving your snake home alone? For how long?

Thanks,

Draba

last time i went out of town was for thanksgiving and i only had 1 snake and 3 turtles... i left the turtles with my roomate to take care of, and the snake i took with me on the trip to louisiana because he doesnt like snakes... in fact he is terrified of them...lol... now i have 3 snakes and 3 turtles and am looking for another corn to breed to my amel, and i have a snake loose in the appartment that i hope i can find soon. if i dont catch her soon i hope we find her when my roomate moves out... but what i am going to do is take my snakes to the only pet store in town that i dont have a problem with the owners because that lady is knowledgable and very kind. she will take care of them for me while i am gone, and only charge me for the mice she feeds them...

I only feel comfortable leaving my snakes in the house alone if im only gone for a day or two, I make sure to feed them before i go and make sure they have plenty of water and that their pens are nice and clean.

I'm OK with leaving my snakes alone for 2-3 days if the weather is warm. In the winter a electrical outage could be deadly if I wasn't there.

I go away for up to a week and leave them alone. They all get cleaned out immediately beforehand and get two water dishes each - slim chance of them accidentally pooping in both.

Anything longer than a week and my parents come in to check them and change water every 2-3 days. They're not experts, but they have the number of my vet who will make a housecall if they see anything that concerns them.

"Special needs" cases always go to the boarding facility run by my local reptile shop (not in good health, young and need feeding more often than once a fortnight etc) regardless of how long I'm away.

I also confine vacations to winter months when there are no/few hatchlings and no gravid females.
