Going to try my hand at breeding...

I'm Me, Deal With It
So as most of you know my fiance and I broke up in April. Well now I am with a great guy that actually supports me in my hobbies *gasps*

So he is encouraging me to try breeding corns since it is something that I have wanted to do since I first got Nevada years ago ^_^

So now to decide who/what to start with, since I don't have snakes anymore ><

 Awesome to see another person breeding. Just have to pick the right mate, eh?

I plan on doing some breeding, enough to be a state breeder perhaps, but for now, I'm going to start with ball pythons. 4-8 eggs would be a better start, rather than the dozen or so corns pop out. Plus, I don't think BPs double clutch. Corns do.

Start with what you like and have room for. Once you decide, get the best you can afford and no spur of the moment pick-ups.

I agree wih Dick. Decide in advance what you want to produce and only buy animals that will give you those morphs. Impluse buys are very hard to resist but can lead to you having tanks filled with cute Corns that don't fit with anything else you have. I know - I've done it!

While you're deciding what morphs you like, also be researching your local market very carefully and find out what morphs will sell in your area. The market for Corns has really gone downhill over the last couple of years and you could find yourself working hard to make sales while you spend out money on keeping the babes fed.

Start saving up a bit of money now to provide a financial buffer in case you end up with the hatchlings for a longer time. Although I'm in the UK, as a measure of the sort of trouble we're in, my local specialist reptile shop still has some '09s left. The normally "high end" morphs are selling very slowly, for a fraction of the price they brought a couple of years ago. I still have four '09s (three Caramel Mots and a Butter Mot) that I cant even give them for free. Normally they'd take everything I breed.

I would start with just 1 clutch. I can testify from starting with 1 clutch my first year, 2 the 2nd, 3 the 3rd etc etc that it is a lot of extra work once the babies come.
