Good or bad snake house

Yep. If only the owners knew they were on a pot of gold. Just no leprechauns they get garter snakes.

I read this article awhile ago. Didn't see that photo, though--is that a bucket of DEAD garter snakes? I hope not!

Sadly most of them are headless, so I would think so. I love snakes, including garters, but wouldn't want to live on a nest of them. I feel for that family. I can't imagine living in a house infested with something I find scary, like giant spiders. They should condemn the house and give the snakes their den back.

It is, sadly. They killed over 40. It's very sad, and the fact that the father suffered
"snake related post traumatic stress disorder" is also depressing. A normal person should not react that way to being around snakes, even if your house is full of them. All it takes it a little time to sit down and think "Ok, are these snakes really a danger to me? Do I have to kill or hurt them or can I be compassionate? Perhaps I should learn more about them before jumping to conclusions." In essence, if the man had used logical thinking and common sense he wouldn't be having emotional issues right now.

I feel very badly for the snakes and I hope things work out for everyone involved. Persoanlly, because of my small animals, I'd board everything that could be eaten someplace, call in wildlife control and be done with it. Relocate them someplace else as opposed to killing them.

I find it unbelievable the number of people I've met who've been "chased" by snakes. This is apparently the top reason why people don't like snakes. I can't imagine being that irrational though. I had a slight fear of spiders, so I bought myself a tarantula. Now I'm fine. I'm even okay being "cornered" by one in the shower now (I have a window in my bathroom that stays slightly open). I'm terrified of heights, so when I have the extra money and someone to join me, I'm going to bungie jump or parachute or zip line (or all three and more).

I feel so badly for these snakes.

I think that the man suffers from "post traumatic snake stress disorder" is really sad. I can understand even a snake lover may not enjoy a home infested with snakes to this degree, but aren't garter snakes harmless? We used to catch them and put them in buckets when we were little kids (then let them go after a few minutes!!).

I really don't have any pity for these people, they signed a document saying there was a snake infestation. If I was buying a house that said rat, mouse, termite, etc.. infestation I would definitely have that looked into.. why would snakes be any different especially for people who are fearful of them?

I think if I found a way to seal off the inside of the house it might be fun to live there! :) I am deathly afraid of insects.. my husband thinks getting a pet spider will help. After reading your story of success, Pridecity, maybe we will try it. We had crickets and superworms for the beardie but I would only handle them with tongs!

@Miqote: My salmon bird eater was great. I was sad to lose him. He molted one day and then promptly died. I took him to a local spider keeper and we couldn't figure out what happened. The spider and I had an understanding: I open the cage lid, he would go under his log. If I had to clean out the cage, he would be nice enough to go into a temporary container. He even ate roaches for me so I wouldn't have to get crickets. Great spider.

I think this house was cool as hell. Had NOT seen the bucket of dead garters though :( the one thing that I don't think is cool is how they said the water tasted funny.
UM.. i love snakes but I've been musked on by a huge wc garter and it's NOT pretty. I'd not want to be having that tainting my water.

I saw this house on the animal planet show. absolutely crazy how many snakes were running around there! seems hard to believe they didn't notice the snakes before they bought the house...especially with having to sign the statement about the infestation! wouldn't they at least get it checked out?

as much as i love my snakes, i wouldn't want to live in a house infested with them. yard, maybe, but not inside. i actually once had a nightmare about this (probably after seeing the TV show!).
