Great New Feeder Packaging Option

Teaching Snakes To Read
I just got a new Reynold's Handi-Vac, and I can't say enough good things about it. Basically, its a hand held, battery (AA I think, but it comes with some and I haven't had to replace them yet) vacuum pump that comes with special plastic bags. They are ZIP-LOC bags that can be vacuum sealed...and you can use the same ones OVER AND OVER. It's the most perfect thing for sealing mice I've ever seen! The vaccuum is $9.99 with batteries and 3 quart sized bags (Just the right size for a pack of fuzzies or hoppers from TMF). Additional quart bags (pack of 14) and gallon bags (pack of 9) are available for $3.29. The bags seem pretty durable...I've opened and resealed one of mine, which is pretty full, 8 or 9 times now and it's good as new.
Now you can take out one mouse for that picky eater who is off schedule with everybody else and keep the rest from getting freezer-burned. It takes maybe 10-15 seconds to suck all the air out of the bag after zipping it closed like a normal zip-loc.
Most useful of all (at least for those of you who are at home and not in a school like me), the vacuum part never touches anything but the outside of the bag, so you could use the same one in the kitchen without any problem!
I know I sound like an ad, but this thing is pretty cool. Comes highly recommended, at least by me. Check your local grocery store/walmart/target kinda place.

I saw those in the store. Nice product if you are working with a low volume of feeders. Where they get you is on the cost of the bags. I wonder just how many times they are re-useable.

I have a nice vacuum sealer I got off Ebay that uses standard commercial vacuum bags which end up costing me about $.01-$.02 each. The catch is you have to buy a case of 1000 or 2000 at a time, depending on size. Last time I ordered 2000 4x6 bags for $22. Those should last a few years =)

The more common "Foodsaver" type bags run about $.30-$.50 each.

I got mine at Safeway. I love it. I've had mine since early December, and feed every 5 days, so I've opened/resealed a lot. So far they seem to be holding up just fine.

I got mine in december as well and I love it!! I have 4,5,6 and 7 day feeding schedules so I am useing mine pretty much every day and I havent had to replace the batteries yet. I have yet to throw away a bag from being over used.

I feel really low-tech now! All I do is wrap the mice in cling-film and then squeeze all the air out of the freezer bags!

Nanci, apparently we need to go shopping together. I also love my automatic shower cleaner! Though that one was actually a gift from my mom, who knows how much I hate to clean...
