Green Tree Pythons...

BuckeyeSnake

Has/does anyone own these? Has to be the most beautiful snake I've ever seen. Hear they're a harder snake to keep.

Positives vs Negatives of these snakes?
Thanks!

I have a Sorong chondro I have raised since August last year. She is a perfect little CB specimen and I have never had any feeding or shedding issues. She is also extremely docile. I have nothing bad to say about her as a specimen. However problems start to arise when you buy WC or CF specimens which could come with parasites and other health issues.

For your first chondro you want to buy a stellar CB baby or adult from a reputable seller.

I always say with a chondro you are keeping the environment and not the animal. Once you have the setup perfectly stable, you will have no real issues with a chondro. It's expensive to set up properly ie so the snake is a nice display animal, but it is soooooooooo worth it. Heres my setup which was custom made for my wee lassie out of a simple plastic box. I heat with heatmats overhead controlled with a pulse thermostat so it's never more than 84 ambient on her top perch, and no less than 75f on the floor.

GTP's make wonderful snakes to keep. Siren is an absolute pleasure to own. She is challanging in a way that is comfortable for both of us. She is no more complex to keep than a corn to me anymore. All I have to remember to do is skoosh her every other day to keep the humidity levels up.

I have a pair of GTP that I really enjoy. I think Elle takes the best photos on the planet so I’m not posting any of mine.

If you are going to get one, do take the time to read up on them first. Like Elle said, if you set up for them correctly they are not difficult to deal with.

Mine have never bitten me, but they strike at me often. Not a problem when they are small but they will grow. Something to keep in mind.

I don't know how I missed this thread. They are wonderful but not beginner snakes. I have a caresheet for green tree pythons on my website if you want to read more. They are certainly addictive! Buy from a breeder or someone like Troy Frantz for a first chondro. You want to stay away from Farmed imports or "captive bred" which means they were born in captivity but imported. Get only captive born and bred in the US. If you end up buying something from Troy at Frantz herpetologic ask him if the animal you're looking at is US cbb and not an import. He does deal in Bushmaster animals but will tell you if it's an import. I bought my first two chondros from him. I've gotten the rest from breeders or at reptile shows. Temperaments vary from diabolical to dead calm sweet. My sorongs are very docile and my one Aru is horrid. My Biaks range from never bite to will bite if she feels threatened. here is the link to my green tree python page. You can look at the different ones there.
