Hey all,

Well about a week ago Sunburst went blue and a day or so later she cleared up. So being a new snake keeper, I've read she was getting ready to shed and that she should start within the next few days. So in went the humid hide and from reading up on it, she may not eat when she is getting ready to shed as well. Well, a week goes by and nothing. Her color lightens back up, no more faded color, she looked pretty normal and isn't acting like anything is out of spec.

So I start getting worried that something is wrong. Maybe she isn't going to shed. Maybe that blue color change was something else! Oh man! Back to the books and web to find out what terrible nasty disease my lil girl may have now that is keeping her from shedding like the books and such say.

So with her not shedding for a week after going blue, I started keeping a close eye on her the last two days. I bet she was thinking 'CRIPES! Don't you people have TV to watch instead of staring at me?!' Nothing at all seemed out of the norm. She cruised around her new home, she drank, basked and slept just like normal, except she had her humid hide in there and did spend a little time in there, but not much.

Well Sunday is feeding day and she hasn't made her lil 'mess' yet from the previous feeding but she is out cruising looking hungry so I took a chance and put her and her mouse in the tub and she still eats just as she always does.

We have had her only about a month and a half so I wasn't really sure how the whole shedding thing would all go down. Kept checking on her about hourly all weekend to see if she was going to start shedding. Nothing. Oh man, now I'm starting to worry that something might be wrong with our new little girl! Maybe she needs a bath? Maybe the humid hide isn't humid enough!? Oh Man what am I doing wrong???!!!

Well, just as Im drifting off to sleep last night I hear 'Thump! Thump! Thump!' from her viv. I pop over and thought she was doing her nightly cruise, but YES!!! She is shedding, and it pretty much is coming off all in one big 4 foot long piece! She caught the top of the shed on a little branch in her viv and is just doing it perfectly!

GO SUNBURST!!! :dancer:

She finishes up with the shed and looks all nice, shiny and clean and I open the viv to take out the shed and she is cruising around with her tail in the air.... huh... never saw that before... silly snake! I'm standing there with my face in the viv telling her what a good girl she is and that she is being silly cruising around with her tail in the air and suddenly...

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAATTT!

Well.. I guess she took care of two things at once! PEEEEEEEEYEEEWWW! :puke02:

Things learned:

1: She sheds on her time, not mine.

2: When she is cruising around with her tail in the air.... give her some privacy!!! :awcrap:

add to this lesson learned...when you do take her out for handling, always have some toilet paper or paper towel or something for the infamous "tail lift". Fair warning to you, lol!

Yea! Nowhere in the books or online did I EVER read a warning about the 'tail lift'!!! Cripes! That there is IMPORTANT information that is being overlooked!
