i cut a frozen mouse in half, let it thaw and gave it to my snake to eat and...i will NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!!!!! it was sooooo unbelievably disgusting and messy. once it thawed to room temperature it started bleeding, i almost hurled. i gave it to norbert and he immediately went for it, as he took it in the blood and guts oozed out...AAAH!!! i had to wait three hours to eat my dinner which was lasagna. if he needs a smaller portion in the future i will find a smaller mouse, but NO more dissection, bleeeeh!! the end.

Uhm, it's better to freeze the mice, then thaw it anf *then* cut it in half. Even then you run the rist of losing a kidney but no bleeding. At least, i didn't suffer from that.

And yes snakes get more agressive when they smell blood. No way i am going to handfeed mine if theres a half pinkie on the menu ;)

i did freeze the mouse, cut it and let it thaw...it still bled...it still got really gross. i fed norbie half the pink because 10 days ago he regurgitated and it was suggested that i give him a smaller meal, but i can't find small pinks anywhere so i chopped it into two.

Well, yes it is gross, but sometimes it has to be done...in the case with an extremely small hatchling, a hatchling that is a problem feeder, or in the case of a hatchling that had regurgitated that needs a smaller meal. I bet you will go ahead and do it again if you really needed to. But then again I have a strong stomach. Nothing seems to bother me, even while eating.

I've always cut the pinkies in half while frozen, whenever I've had to do it, just because I've tried to cut them after they have thawed and it was practically impossible to cut it just how I wanted it (Actually that's the same reason I cut breasts of chicken into pieces while partially frozen, because they get cut into strips or cubes much easier...I dont know...maybe I need sharper knives. LOL).

Never had a problem. I thaw the prey and cut it with a pair of sharp scissors. It does not bleed. Here my Pewter which has a big taste for hamsters. Because I had no pinkie hamsters I cut the head of a hamster pup.

Lol, I've had the same experience..cutting your mice is never particularly pleasant but you get used to it. Imo, I would always cut when the mouse is frozen for the same reasons as Amanda. I find it way easier and far less messy than trying to cut thawed mice up.

Did I miss the reason behind Mugsy cutting the pink in half to begin with?? :shrugs:

hehe

Yeah, the thawed mice get really squishy when I try to cut them. My snakes don't seem to mind either way, but for me I'd much rather cut them while they're still frozen if I have to cut them at all.

Yup :D

I don't see a problem cutting them in 2. As long as their dead when you do that. I've done it once or twice because i had 2 snakes and 3 pinkies :D
