Handling corn snakes?

Hi I'm new to owning snakes. Don't know how old my corn snake is, but he weighs 20g. He is just now getting use to being handled. He doesn't go all hyper active when I try to touch him.

My question is after I handle him and then put him back in his cage he is always excited and slithers all around and try's to get back out. Other then that most of the time he is just in one of his hides. I'm guessing it's probably usual for most corn snakes, but is this because they like being out at is it a stress reaction?

Yes, he is like a little kid and after being held he is still excited! Just make sure that his viv is completely secure and he can't escape, check, double and triple check everything. They will escape from places you never thought they could escape from!

The like being out of their enclosure. They now know where they get taken out from and that there is a way out. So they will try and try for a while to figure out if they can get back out on their own.

Thanks, I'm using tape and weights to keep his lid down tight.

Please be careful with the tape, make sure the snake cannot come in contact with the sticky side. It is nearly impossible to get tape off a snake without harming it.

What I have recently done is use Velcro. I had 6x6" paver stones on each corner of my vivs, they worked well but were a PITA. I have put Velcro on each corner, one of the stiffer pieces on the top and one on the side right below it, and the softer piece that lifts off is one longer piece that connects the two together creating a pull on all corners.

Pretty sure there is no way he can come in contact with the tape. Plus it's the blue painters tape so it's no that sticky.

Perfect. The blue painter's tape is also useful if they do get loose, you can lay it around the edges of your rooms and if he crawls on it he gets stuck, but it is easily removable.
