Handling noob, need assistance!

Hi all, I was hoping you guys could help with me with something.
I just got my first snake,a 2 month old snow corn on thursday(23 Aug) I'm unsure of how to go about handling it. When I try to get the snake out it just tries to flee, do I just basically grab him? Or is it too early to try and handle him? Any help would be appreciated :D

Well, getting him used to being handled won't take long at all. Just pick him up and cup your hands around him, but do it over a soft surface like a bed in case you do drop him, because babies are fast! Personally the only handling I do for babies for the first couple of months is out to their feeding tub and then back again, rather than holding them for long. They soon settle down and work out you're not going to kill them!

Ok thanks :) so when it comes to picking him up do i just grab him (gently of course) if he's trying to get away? I've fed him once but didnt use a feeding tub, just done it in his viv on a tub lid, should i start using a feeding tub then?

Yep, just reach in and get him. don't worry if he goes all cobra on you and strikes, ignoring that behaviour and the frantic 'ESCAPE' behaviour is the quickest way to teach them that handling happens and they have to get used to it.
As for a feeding tub, personally I always use them for babies to reduce the risk of them getting a blockage if they ingest substrate.

Awesome, thanks for your help, thats why i done it on a tub lid so he would get any substrate in there with his meal :)

Just go in and gently grab him from the middle (like you're picking up a pencil) and then quickly support him in your cupped hands. If he's a "I'm a big dangerous snake and you'd better keep away from me" type [goes into strike pattern], then just place your hand flat over him and cup downwards a bit.

As for feeding in the viv or feeding in a seperate feeding bin, that's really mostly up to you. Different folks do it differently here [and often for different reasons as well].

There's nothing wrong with feeding in the viv, although you do increase the risk of ingesting substrate [since there isn't any substrate in the seperate feeding bin]. With proper caution, that risk is minimal though.

I like to feed in a seperate bin, but I only have 3 to deal with so the extra time and hassle of moving them around doesn't bother me (each has his/her own feeding container...which also doubles as a temporary housing bin if I'm cleaning viv's or whatnot).

Thanks Souldwind, I'm Gonna start using a feeding tub, better safe than sorry. Just went to feed him but he's burrowed himself so going to wait a while and give it a go
