Ok so this story all happens in about 20 minutes.

I had just finished reorganizing my room and started setting up a new cage for my snakes and barely put them in. I walk out and watch some tv for a little R&R. I come in and lo and behold one of my corns got out! i thought he was hiding underneath the aspen but nope. I looked and looked and looked. he was clearly gone.

after 20 min it was clear I wasn't going to find him. So as usual i go onto the forum and start reading about how others lose their snakes and where they end up finding it (in hopes of finding my own). after a bit of sadness i decided to go back and look for cracks and holes in the tank....none to be found. Now i thought "lets just make sure everyone's inside their cage. Checked number one and she was in there. number two was missing. number 3 had my candy cane. and number 4...had 2 amels...wait 2? somehow...that little guy got out of his cage and into the other cage...i still don't know how this happened.

to give you an idea of what the tanks look like, it's a 60 gallon tank sectioned into 4 parts professionally. there's silicone covering everything. there's one small hole but i covered it temporarily with some paper. somehow this little guy went from his cage (spot 2) into spot 4. now that it happened I have everyoen back into small plastic shoe boxes until I can find out what happened.

I thank my stars I found him. My mom was just yelling at me yesterday about what I was going to do if one of them escaped...i would hate to hear an "I told you so" from her.

An escape is my worst nightmare too (although I don't have the mom factor).

I'm not accusing you of being absent minded, but are you sure you didn't put two corns in spot 4? I'm very careful with all my pets, but I know how dizzy I can be at times too!

I don't exactly have a neatness fetish, but I take pride in knowing where everything is, or at least where to start looking for it.
I have, in moments of early-onset alzheimers' put my drink in the microwave, and my food in the freezer, etc. All I wanted was some ice.
I've give everything a once over, chalk it up to the innate perversity of the universe, and carry on.
With that caveat, the great bird of the galaxy lies in wait for me, to use me for target practice. Don't be a target.

haha yea i'm 100% sure i didn't put two there. i should know i looked at all of them for a long time after i put them in. i thought i should find out how he got over there so i put him back in spot two and sat near the cage. 15 min later i look back and he's gone again. but this he didnt' completely escape! i saw the end of his tail hanging from the top (above the slider between the sliding glass holder). it seems he was using that small hole to move from spot two to spot 4. i covered it and put everyone back into their respective spots and now i'm a little more relieved knowing how he got over there :D

You're lucky it only took 15 mins, you could've been there all night! Glad you figured it out though. Clever snake!

I tried dividers in tanks many many years ago and had the same problem. The snakes bypass the divider at the top. If you have a screen top, that screen is flexible. It just takes a little pressure on the screen and they can move in with their neighbor.:eats02:

this was a custom made tank. the dividers are made of glass and have silicone all the way around. i tried taking some pictures of his tail sticking out of the hole but i forgot to put it on macro so the pictures aren't clear. just gotta make them all bigger so they can't fit through the holes anymore :D
