Hatchling eating...finally.

My new hatchling cornsnake arrived and I tried to feed a live pinky the next day and she refused so I froze it and waited two days and fed it again. It ate it and swallowed it within 10 mins. Not really sure how soon because I placed the snake in a deli cup. It made a small lump in her belly and I have a couple of questions. How often should I feed and should I feed more then one pinkie? I have her on Reptile Bark. Is this safe for her to eat on or should I always feed in a seprate container?

In my experience...

hatchlings should be fed a little moer often than adults, I feed my newbies every 4 days for the first few months, then when they start to pack on a little size, I move to progressively larger food items once a week.

I keep my hatchlings on paper towels for the first few months, just so I can keep an eye on their bowel movements and possible regurges. Still though, I feed in seperate containers to avoid any conditioned feeding response (I know, much debate on that subject).

Also, I do keep my older guys on bark, and you should not feed there, as impaction can occur from accidental ingestion of even the smallest piece of wood.

Hope this helps!
