Hatchlings!!

Hello Everyone! This is my first year successfully having hatchlings! So far two have come out of their eggs and I have 4 more eggs with heads poking out! I have taken out the 2 and placed them in their new home. How long do I need to let them settle before I start handling them? I don't want to stress them out. Thanks!

I _try_ to leave mine alone until the first shed, but that is REALLY difficult with your first clutch! I bet I had Number One out ten times in his first couple days :) The babies will go blue almost immediately after hatching and usually shed in about six or seven days. Some people offer the first meal right after hatching, most wait until after the first shed, and some wait five to seven days after the first shed. THEN it's okay to handle.

I try to get a few decent pics of each baby upon hatching so I will be less tempted to bother them while waiting for the first shed. Then a new set of pics after the first successful feeding.

Thank you all! Here's a few pictures of my babies! Have have 6 so far and three more with little heads poking out of their eggs! Three others still to pip.

It is going to be difficult not to hadle them for a week, but I want to be sure to do this right.

<-------- Dad

One of the new babies shed tonight - will feed tomorrow - need to buy more pinkies, only bought 11...was being pessimistic I guess as one was for the beardie...I thought 10 of 12 would be a good hatch rate, didn't plan for 12 of 12!

Oh, and I can't wait until next year when the Boas are old enough to breed...that one will be fun! Both double-het for snow....would love one of those!

I'll be Optimistic.... 12 babies? I wouldn't buy less than 100 pinkies minimum. You figure...each Hatchling...if they all feed.....will eat 1 pinkie each...every 3-4 days. So assume 10 out of 12 are good feeders....thats 20 pinkies every week (3 day interval). So 100 Pinkies will only last a little over a month.

Congrats on the Hatchlings!! :)

oh I meant for just the first feeding - I knew I would need more - there is a pet store close that sells them! Oops...I am logged in as Macy...this is really Kevin... : )

If you can I suggest ordering some pinkys in it'll save you and arm and a leg!
Rodent pro is good I hear. I have over 300 pinks in my freezer, one group of 8 babies is out and the second clutch of 8 are starting to pip :)
