he just won't eat!

I've never had a problem with Hendrix not eating in the two years I've had him, recently I changed his subtrate to a softer mix (made of coconut, you soak in water)...since then he hasn't eaten! I've switched back to a courser subtrate just in case there was a problem with it, but he still won't eat. It's been about a month now, and he just isn't interested in the food....shoud I worry? do I force feed him and if so how?.....

I wouldn't force him males when they reach sexual maturity will go off feed around now with females on the brain. I would stick to your aspen shavings and try every 7 days until he does eat. You can try making it really warm, soaking in chicken broth, or tuna juice, and slitting it a lot to release a stronger scent.

I've had male go as much as three months during mating season. I wouldn't change any of his old feeding habits, he'll eat again when he's ready.

One of our males stops eating every mating season. It was stressful for us the first time. Just keep offering a meal when you normally would. He will eat when he's done thinking about the ladies. You know how us guys can get.

I had three young males refuse last night. 2007's. This would be their first year for feeding strikes. Since my back-up snake didn't have room for all three extras, I let the males sit for TWO HOURS in their feeding containers. (Normally they get fed, if they don't eat they get one reheat and get left for an hour, then I quit). Two of the three ate.

Thanks Nanci, I left him in a container last night with a smaller f/t mouse, cut it open to get the scent out there...and he stayed in there for about a half hour without even sniffing it! MEN!
