he must have been hungry........part two

My snakes are both getting bigger so I have to keep adjusting their food schedule. In the last 4 1/2 months since I last measured them. Rube has increased his length by 11" to a current 33". Ami was 2' when I first got him. He is now 3'. They are currently 144 and 163 grams apiece, respectively.

They are probably ready to eat small adullts/weaned, but a still have a few dozen frozen hoppers I am trying to get rid of. They are not crazy about doing two prey items at once, so I've been doing one hopper every 4 days. From the way they "go hunting" well before scheduled feedings, the fact that even the smaller one now seems to digest a hopper in less than two days without devecating, and their increased enthusiasm over eating, I am going to have to feed them more. I think I will start selecting the larger hoppers before I try to go up to 2 ar once again. The hoppers I got from RodentPro are between 7-8 grams. They seem to do a lot better with more frequent meals, but I don't really want to have meals every 3 days, then I never get to handle them.

I personally don't like to feed any more often than 5 days, and that's just for the young'uns who haven't reached fuzzy mice yet... You CAN keep doing what you're doing, but even if you continue to feed every 4 days, eventually, you'll just be maintaining their current size. My '07 is the size of a well-fed '08 because I only fed her every 7-10 days as a hatchie, and decided to double and triple her up on pinkies until I ran out... I think, since I moved her up to hoppers, she's finally hit the 100 gram mark.

You should get another snake! =D

As I said in my initial post. It's tough to get them to eat more than one prey item at one feeding. They are contiuously growing. So hopefully before long they will actually be big enough to eat a couple of hoppers at a time. Of course, once they finish the hoppers, I can go to a larger size.

I can understand that. I'm just saying too much leftover of one size is a good excuse to get another snake. ;)
