I had no idea this was coming. But Zepp just shed for the first time since I've had him. He's an adult amel and my very first snake, so I guess I just didn't really notice he was even in blue. But when I think about it, he did look a little dull a week or so ago.
I've only had him about three weeks. So I haven't really have him long enough to notice the change. And he's been eating like a champ, so I never thought it was even coming up yet.
He was also pretty boring for the last week. Constanly burrowed and hiding. He's normally very active. I just attributed it to the new substrate and stuffs that I got for him. Thought he just loved the sani-chips so much he wanted to just stay under them. Haha!
I live in Utah and our humidity is super low. I struggle keeping his viv above 35-40. I just can't get it any higher without spraying it. I've tried a water dish over the uth. I barely hit 40 with that route.
I'm guessing because of the humidity, he shed in big pieces. But it all came off within two hours of me noticing his head was peeling. I sprayed his viv down when i saw he was in fact shedding. Other than that, he didn't need any help from me at all. So, he's great.
He fed just before things started peeling. So the last two days I've been worried about regurge, since I read not to feed while in blue or while actively shedding, but he seems fine. He is 100% back to normal already.
That was all pretty exciting to me. I sat and watched him rub against his rock and log to get it off. He jumped in his water dish for a bit. Amazing how their instinct works and they just know what to do!!
Hopefully I will notice when it's coming next time. His eyes are a deep red again, so I'll be more on top of things the next go 'round and get him to shed in one piece.

I've got 11 corns and have yet to see one of them actively shedding... they always seem to do it in the middle of the night. Very cool that you got to witness your snake's first shed.

Cool! I'd love to see my snakes shed! I watched a video but it would be very neat to see one of mine do it. I find that mine do it during the night as well.

Mine does it at night, too. The most recent shed I was able to see her get out of the last bit of her tail. It's amazing how stretchy the freshly shed skin is - it dries out so quickly!

I bet your corn snake looks all bright and vibrant again. You should post a picture!

He did it around 10-11 pm the other night. It was the weekend and I was waiting up for the hub to get home. So I lucked out I think. It was really awesome.
He is pretty. I have only a pic of his head from when he was in blue and I didn't realize it. Now that he has shed, I can def tell.
I will get a pic... hang on, he is buried right now.
