Heat Bulbs? Ok or not?

I'm relatively new to keeping a snake. I have had my Amel now for about 2 years. I bought her from a specialised Pet store who supplied me with all the relevant equipment and info. My Amel was about 12'' when i got her and she is now at least 45'' and not stopping. I notice that alot of people who have posted comments all seem to use heat mats rather than heat bulbs. The owner of the pet shop has 20 years experience and assured me that heat bulbs (obviously with guard) are fine. Is it a mistake to use heat bulbs or does everyone just prefer heats mats through personal choice? My snake has never missed a feed (apart from when shedding), is very active and seems to be enjoying her current surroundings and climate. Anyones comments and/or reasons for there use of heating would be appreciated.
Many Thanks
John

It's as much personal choice as anything else. Heat bulbs seem to tend to dry out an enclosure more than a heat mat. My corns (most of them) are in a ten tub rack that provides heat from the back (lol neither above or below) and they do just fine. With a bulb i would just make sure you have a nice big water bowl.

Here it is...

What I do is put a heat light at one end and put a heat mat at the other. So when he is awake and active he can have heat and when he's asleep he can have heat. But I'm wondering if thats wrong or not???

if you have a heating elemten on both sides then there is no cool zone which i belive if fine because some southerns dont use any heat at all but why waste the power?
