hi i was wondering if any one had advise for heating,
my 20 gal long glass screen top tank is at 80 degrees F before heating and lighting, if i turn on my heating pad it gets to 90 degrees, i am using a rheostat, which is to hot for my baby (4 months) corn i don't
know if this is ok and i don't go to the vet for another week, pls help my baby is going through shedding and eats tomorrow i don't want it to be uncomfortable.
on an unrelated note any name ideas, hasn't been probed yet so i don't know gender?

90 degrees is a bit high but not to the point it will harm your snake. The snake can always seek out a cooler spot on the other side of the tank. I would be concerned if it were higher than that. Optimum temps would be about 85-ish.

You stated you are using a rheostat. I too used to use rheostats, and even on the lowest setting the heat pad is still too high. A "Thermostat" works better.

But what I used to do was stack about a half inch to an inch of folded newspaper on the bottom of the tank. Then place my bedding on top of that. It will disperse the heat greatly. (The thicker the newspaper, the cooler it will be). This will work for you until you can get your hands on a thermostat.
 
thank you i will try a thermostat, i tried to newspaper idea but it likes to hide under the newspaper.
