I got a heat mat and a temperature controller. Put the heat mat on the bottom of the glass tank and put the temperature probe inside the tank, under the substrate, right on the glass above the middle of the heat mat. Set the temperature to 85 degrees F.
My snake lays on top of the substrate and the temperature on top doesn't get up to 85 degrees due to the substrate insulating above the heat mat. It seems like I usually have been getting a reading around 80 to 81 degrees using a laser thermometer measuring the top of the substrate under the hide.
Should I turn up the heat mat some to get the substrate warmer or leave it as is? Right now she doesn't burrow any but I don't want her to get down on the glass and get too hot but I also want to make sure she has a warm enough place to go to aid in digestion.
