Hello i have read that the temps should taken on top of the substrate.
My corn spends 85% of his time beneath the aspen, so should I be going by the temp. on the viv floor where the uth is? I would hate to think I was doin something wrong that may injure him. thank you.
 
Temps should be taken at the hottest point that the snake could touch.
I think that point would be on the glass above the the UTH.

Yup...I agree. If your snake can get to it and rest on it, THAT should be where the temperature is taken, so as to prevent ventral burns from resting on a UTH that is too hot...
