heating/cleaning?

here i am again, asking more questions...lol.

i went out last night and bought everything i needed to set up my snake's new home (haven't gotten him yet). i chose the aspen bedding, two coconut huts for hides and two thermometers (for each side).

i also have a lot of other "furniture" that came from my old tree frog's cage, including plastic vines/branches and a rock that doubles as a hide. how would i clean these things to insure the snake's safety? i used the 10% bleach soution on them as well as the cage. then to be safe, i filled the sink up with water and submerged the vines and rock overnight.

i can no longer smell the bleach, but i'm paranoid that there may still be some in there.

also, i plan on getting a UTH because my house gets pretty cold. if i adhere this to the bottom of the cage, will the aspen be enough to absorb some of the heat? i'm afraid the snake will burrow under the bedding and come in direct contact with the glass. any suggestions? should i lay down some paper towel? will he burrow under that also?

sorry for all the questions! i just want my snake to have the best (and safest) life!

thanks!

10% bleach solution is fine and as long as you can no longer smell the bleach i am sure you have rinsed them enough.
A heat mat is the best thing you can have and about an inch of bedding on the top will be fine. They do not get not enough for a corn snake to burn themselves. I have found mine a few times hidden underneath it (i have now taped it down). You will find that your snake will probably burrow anyway and so the more layers you put down the more chance it will burrow. If your viv is wooden then put the mat inside the viv with just the substrate on top, if it is glass then it can go outside (i think). Heat is absolutely vital no matter how cold/warmm youre house is and the mat should cover 1/3 of the viv. Im not sure how big youre viv is but i have a brand new 17" x 11" Habistat one for sale if u need one (not sure where u are but will post to UK and Eire). God luck with your new snake :)

stefmc24 1 of the heatmat's below (or similar) is your best bet. If you cant get hold of 1 send me $10 to cover postage and packing and i'll post 1 as fast as i can to you (it will need re-wireing as it has a 3 pin UK plug fitting) but the offers their and is 1 of my old ones (about 18 monthes) and is a 11" by 11" model.

As to the cleaning if you are still paronoid pop everthing wooden in the oven for 20 mins on a very low light, as will kill anythig lef and get rid of the smell of bleach.
