Heating Tubs?

DTkach

Snake Owner
I was wondering: How do you heat plastic tubs without burning the plastic?

I plan to move my snake to a plastic tub (More room) and I am not sure about how to maintain the temp.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been discussed.

Most people support the tub on blocks a small distance above the heat mat, to allow ventilation to the mat and prevent it burning the case. :)

Lots of things are simple when someone points them out to you. ;) We were all new once, I'm willing to bet I was a lot worse. :grin01:

The UTH or flexwatt can go directly on the bottom of the tub as long as it is regulated with a thermostat or rheostat. No need to worry about raising it up or anything. Just make sure it doesn't get above the 85 or so safe hot side temp for corn snakes and everything will be fine.

Before I got my rack on the tubs I used, I would tape the flexwatt direvtly to the bottom of the tub. Seems like trying to raise it up on blocks would be a pain

Hey, I'm paranoid, the last thing I need is a fire hazard next to my pride and joys. :p Plus I have no idea what kind of temperature plastic gets a bit pliable at, so I decided to advise on the side of caution.

Well....we have her in the tub.....it seems well. Only two things to say:

1) I am not using a heating pad YET. We want to see if it will be warm enough to not need one.
2) The clips. The tub's lid came with two side clips. I myself can make a grap in the middle even when cliped. I am sort-of worried she can do the same (she's only a babie though).
