WOW had NO IDEA how hard it is to find live pink/hopper/fuzzy mice for feeders. I have a Dumerils who was fed F/T for the first 3-4 months and then switched to live for a month or so before I got her. Tried 2 times on F/T to no avail and thought Id try the live a couple of times and then move to P/K and then over to the F/T but for the life of me cannot find any anywhere. Anyone in the Cuyahoga Falls/ Akron/ Stow area of Ohio know of a good place to pick up a couple?

Thanks

I don't know if you have a Pets Supplies Plus in that area(I'm in Stark) but it's where we got our lives before we were able to convert. There's a couple of them around me.

Thanks there is right close here on Graham Road but they only had larger and advised that they dont usually have anything smaller than hoppers

Ah I see! I've never had to buy anything smaller than a small mouse so I wasn't sure or not.

You might be able to get it to eat f/t if you make it really really warm and do the zombie dance across the floor of her home. I got a boa that was fed only live all her life, 1 1/2 yrs. She was a bit hestiant at first but she finally thought it was alive and took it. Now after 4 feedings like that, she takes them if I just throw it in and leave it.

Becky speaks the truth. Most of them will take it if it's warm and moving. If she still doesn't take it, you can try scenting it with tuna juice. I know nothing about boas, but this should work like a charm for most snakes. :shrugs:

Thanks for the info guys. I have tried thawed and really warm in a feeding cup and alone in the dark. tried in her viv with tweezers and wiggling it in front of her and nothing dipped the head in chicken broth nothing. brained it and again nothing. left it all night and she rubbed all over it and then layed there with her head on it but did not take it. last night I tried the trick of thawing it under the lamp in her viv so that scent was strong and she did the same thing. Rubbing it and laying her head on it. Left it all night and this morning nothing. Ill try the tuna and also the putting her in a bag wqith it in her viv all night and see if that works.

Thanks for all the excellent help though!

got your PM as well, Best of Luck! Where did you get your Dumerils? was that the Akron Show? Have you posted a pic yet? Just curious, I have a young High Pink female as well!

How old is this boa? Could be she's just not hungry.

Recheck your temps too. If the temp is on the low side, she might be thinking it's winter and wont eat. Then again, maybe she's just not hungry.

Yes got her at the Akron show last month
Usually we go to the Cleveland show each month and decided to try out the Akron show. The guy I got her from was with the JMG guys

Im assuming that shes no older than 4-5 months
I got her from a vendor that got her from the breeder
She was originally fed F/T by the breeder for 2 months or so and he gave her and another to the vendor that I got her from to sell and he had her for a couple of months but was feeding her live pinkies/fuzzies
cool side has been just abround 70 lately which is where she has been mainly this week but warm side has been 90-92 - humidity around 50%

here are a few pics of our hottie (as my 9 y/o son would say)

Nice Pink Dum. Looks like it could be a clutchmate to mine! I was at the Cleveland show and I saw about 5-10 dums there ( I'm looking for a high pink male) and none of them had the colors that ours have!

How big is she? When my Dum (not mine, but she's lived with me almost exclusively since she was purchased by a friend of mine) was about that age she was eating rat pinks. Have you tried rats? Or is she not big enough to handle something that size yet? Athena won't eat mice at all, she would rather starve herself than touch a mouse (trust me, I've tried).

We first saw the Dums at the Cleveland show and my wofe fell in love with the pattern and coloring although as you stated there were NONE that were as bright as she is. We decided on a whim to go to the akron show and had NO PLAN of getting anything. Didnt even take any money and ended up there late (1400) and they closed at 1500 and had to end yup running to get money as my wife fell in love as soon as she saw her.

She is NOT very big at all. Right now I'd be looking at large fuzzies (not quote to the hopper stage) as the largest. I still have a couple of tricks up my sleeve (like raising the cool side temps to the 80's and scenting with tune and the good old "bag" trick that I have not tried yet so will keep plugging along. Thanks again for ALL THE GREAT HELP and will keep posted

Well she ate FINALLY. It took getting a live hopper but MAN did she attack it. I held it by the tail and she atruck and coiled and let go with her mouth and just squeezed it. There was no sound at all it happened soo quick. Now to just get her a couple more feedings up to the nezt cleveland show and then get some hoppers and try F/T with them and see if I can get her back on F/T
