Helix dbs 1000 problems

I have 2 helix dbs 1000 on two different rack systems. I have colubrids on an 8 shelf unit and ball pythons on a 10 shelf system. Both have belly heat flexwatt. I am having problems with regulating the heat. I know each shelf is supposed to vary somewhat. But mine is major. I have one set at 85 and the top shelf reads 90 when on and the bottom is 72. On my ball rack I have it set for 92 (this one has a new probe and is the standard plug) and the top rack is only at 85-87 and the bottom 68-70 which is way too cool for balls. I have the probes taped directly on the flexwatt on the black line. I had it on shelf number 5 on the 10 shelf unit and on shelf 4 on the 8 shelf unit. On the 10 shelf unit I moved it down to shelf 7 and it still reads low temps on the bottom. Is there a way to correct this? Do I have it on the wrong location? Any other suggestions? We had thought about cutting the heat tape and adding a plug to it and hooking up second helix but wasn't sure if that would overload my socket or not. I have another helix on my incubator which I have not used before. I just acquired it. It's a 2 shelf frig type from The snake shack. I'm nervous about using it since I cannot regulate my racks. Hope there is a way I can get the racks to stabilize. I have 3 balls breeding right now.Ok. Helix dbs 1000 problems

I don't think it's the thermostat; it's the nature of how air temps work- heat rises.

My only suggestion would be put the snakes requiring more heat in the upper levels, and the snakes requiring less heat in the lower levels. Do you still have corns that could go in the bottom?

I'd set up your incubator now and start measuring temps. I'd use a high/low registering thermometer. What _really_ matters is what the temp is inside the egg box- so put the incubation medium in there and the thermometer probe and see how stabile the temp is.

Nanci.. The way I have my racks set up are so that one rack is all corns and rats and one king and the other is all of my big bps. I have 2 other racks with ranco stats.. One all corns and the other corns and younger balls. And I have another rack that is a reptile basics rack that I have a herpstat 2 on and I don't have the issues with it. I have my juvenile balls in it. Of course it's an enclosed rack. Maybe that's the problem.. 3 of the racks are open type racks. Could it be the room temp? We have 2 radiator heaters set on 82 and the regular heat. But the room is at 78. Can't seem to get it higher. Our electric bill was over $300 for one month. But I don't care.. My babies come first

We have the outsides covered with a quilt. Oh and I just ckd and one of the helix.. The one with all the adult balls in it is going nuts.. The numbers are jumping all over the place.. On the unit itself. It must be bad

If it's going crazy and not from the probe being unattached, I'd unplug the rack. The racks definitely get hot enough to kill when unregulated.

Ok so i decided to change out the probe with the system. I took the new probe out of the problem unit and put it in another unit and it did the same thing. So it must be the brand new $35 probe I literally just got from LLL reptile. I didn't keep the box or paperwork because it seemed to work fine until all this numbers going nuts happened. Unless I'm putting the probe in the wrong place. I am putting it on the black line on the flexwatt. Is that right? Or should it be on the lines in between
