Hi. My name is Carrie, but my nickname is Mouse (I'm short). I'm pretty much a newbie. When I started working at a pet store in April of 2009, I was afraid of the snakes and tarantulas. I didn't like animals whose movements I couldn't predict. A few months later, my boss changed my schedule so that I was working on Wednesday mornings...snake feeding time. After a few times of trying to get other people to help me, I finally decided to dive right in.

After a while, the corn snakes weren't freaky any more. In fact, they were kinda cute. Then the baby ball pythons weren't so scary either. Then it hit me, I had to have a corn snake.

I purchased my first corn snake last December. She was a pretty snow corn that I named Frost. In February, I went to my first reptile show. I purchased a beautiful striped amel/motley who I named Lilith. The next month I bought a blood red boy and named him Diablo.

Sadly both Frost and Diablo have passed away. All the vet and I can figure is that they died from being probed. A guy at the reptile show swore he does it all the time and that it's fine to do on hatchlings. Now I know better.

Lilith is still going strong. She is such a beautiful snake. That's her in my pic.

This past June, a friend of mine told me he was going to have to re-home his ball python, Monty. He had to move back in with his parents and his mom would not accept the snake. Monty lives with me now. He enjoys being out of his cage (with supervision of course). He likes knocking stuff off of my desk and typing. Monty also likes to try to fit in spaces that are too small for him.

Last month, I purchased a leucistic ratsnake at the Columbus Reptile show. It's not real fond of me, but I'm working on it. It's beautiful either way. Still working on a name for it.

This month, I purchased an adorable little striped ghost corn. I hope to breed him with Lilith someday. He hasn't told me his name yet, but I'm leaning toward Zuul, Gozer, Vinz Clortho, or Spangler (Ghostbusters names for a Ghost corn ).

Sorry for the book. That's my snake history. :grabbit:

Welcome I am sorry that you lost your other ones. I like the name Spangler but I love ghostbusters. Your story is kind of the way I got mine. My huddy hated snake untill my son Birthday party that was at the zoo. Then they bought out a corn snake. The next day He said that I could have one. Here is my baby. He has no name eather I always bad with naming things

Baby corn snakes can actually be probe-sexed safely if the person doing it knows what they are doing. There shouldn't be any bleeding or injuries caused by it if it is done correctly. There is also a less invasive sexing method called "popping" which takes some practice to master, but works great on hatchlings most of the time. Sorry you snakes didn't make it, whatever the reason.

Congratulations on your new snakes, and welcome to the forum! :)

Yeah, I still don't know what happened to them for sure. I do know, the 2 that were probed were the two that died. Poor snakes were getting very very skinny. They both ate a pinkie once every 5 days. Never regurgitated. I took them to the vet, and there wasn't anything in their stool either. Frost died a week before Diablo. I miss them both very much.
