Hello, from Portland OR

Hi, my name is Mike and I am a software engineer living and working here in the great Northwest. I finally got a decent job this summer, something I'd been looking for since getting my masters' in computer science in Spring of 2006.
Recently, I made a new friend who worked in a pet shop specializing in herps, small animals, and fish. I have long been interested in herps and used to be a volunteer in the Dallos Zoo's Reptile Department.

With a little extra money, I thought it would be neat to get one or two reptile pets. I already have mommals and bireds. Specifically, 2 cats and an African Grey Parrot. I finally decided on corn snakes for my reptillian pets due to their beauty, easy maintenance, and docility. I got two of them back in November of last year, both were born in August 2007.. Since then they have been eating hopper mice weekly, have both shed once, and have each grown 4". Rube the sunkissed is now 26", and Ami the lavender is 28".

I couldn't be happier with my new pets. Ami was a liitle nervous when I first got him and actually struck at me once. No big deal. I was once bitten by a 3 foot albimo rat snake at the zoo, and that didn't hurt either. He's a lot calmer now. Both he and Rube, who was pretty mellow even when I first brought him home, are a lot of fun to play with and watch. Both are males and I am not currently planning on doing any breeding. Not enough room or time.

For anybody who's interested. I am going to post picturees of my guys in the photo section. I've really been enjoying tht section. I read about some of the different morphs in Kathy and Bill Love's Corn Snakes. However, it look like some folks are taking the breeding to a whole new level in procucing new colors and patterns. Pretty amazing!

Welcome to the forum! Great to see more people from Oregon on here. Portland is a really fun city. I am a little south of you here... will be driving up next Sat though for Wilsonville reptile show next Saturday Jan 24.

Hello Mike, welcome.
I used to get stuck in the Photos forum all the time. I Still do, and I'm a one-snake guy.
It's interesting to read about the morphs, but even better to see them. That section has a large variety of each morph so you get to see different possibilities within the morph.
