Greetings everyone from Canada. Ive been lurking here for about a month, learning everything there is to know about corn snakes. I must say this forum has been a great resource. :) Thanks guys!

I have 10g zilla tank with sliding lid with all the corn snake luxuries (UTH with t.stat, 84 hot and 73 cold, two hides, 1 water dish, currently on paper towel substrate but will switch to aspen, plenty of fake foliage and a stick for climbing)

I got my 0.1 amel cornsnake (exact age unknown, i suspect 3-6 months) 7 days ago. Its about 16 inches long and healthy. I was able to feed it a f/t pinky three days after I got it and it ate it like a champ. (no regurge)

One detail this forum might have missed is that corns snakes might have the ability to flatulate (at least i think). After four days of letting the cornsnake digest, I searched the tank for excrement. I didnt see any but I could smell it (possible gas?). I picked up the snake and since its an amel, I was able to see the poop through its light belly so I know it didnt poop yet. I know that some corns will defecate as a defence mechanism so I slowly brought the snake back to the viv. The snake suddenly stopped moving and held a stiff position. I paused and wondered what it was doing (it wasnt in striking position). Then it pooped all over me and happily crawled back into its hide.

This may sound weird but, Im glad it pooped (not glad about it pooping on me though). So far I was able to experience the first handling, first feeding, first drink and today, first poop. Im looking forward to the first shed (about 1-2 more weeks) and first strike at my fingers .

I just wanted to say thank you all for your expertise and keep up what you are doing, it helps a lot =D.

PS. I know you guys love pics so heres one. Quality isnt great but more will come as soon as it gets settled in and a bit more calm.

This is a picture of the corn leaving the feeding container and heading back into warm hide. It just ate so it looks thicker/fatter than it really is =P.

PPS. Any name suggestions? Any guesses on Morph?

Welcome! What a nice little corn. Just a tip about the defacating, try not to put the snake away straight away or it could learn that pooping on you leads to being put back home. I caused and then had to break that habit in one of my first corns. I learnt to keep a cloth over my knees to catch the poop and keep on handling and he learnt that pooping didn't make me stop handling him.

Awesome intro, glad you finally introduced yourself. Welcome to the wonderful world of corns :D beware they are addicting! lol Looks like you have a beautiful little Amel I would say 6 months old. I usually name mine after what their colors remind me of. (example Tabasco is our bloodred) or a name from a book, movie, video game ext. that you think is cool but wouldn't name your child lol like Zelda (sorry if someone has a kid named Zelda). Let us know if you have any questions and check out the chat sometime :D

Cute lil Amel. Looks just like my Alex. And you arent all that far from me either! At least for the next two weeks.
Welcome to the club of being pooped on. Hopefully you dont ever get nipped though.

Just wait until something a little more substantial gets you!! I got pooped on by my ball python, and that was an experiance. Just like a corn, but quite a bit more...and it was all down my back an in my hair...lol...gotta love the slithery buggers.

Welcome to the site! Always glad to see a fellow Canadian. One of my favorite things about this site is how many people from all over there is. Deffinetly a global community, all with a love of corns in common. You'll have fun here, I know it. lol...we all do! :)

Thank you guys for the warm welcome, I look forward to hearing all the great stories and advice you guys have.

Tee Hee...thanks! Thats my boy Yoshi. He's the greatest. I swear he would eat skydiving if that were the case. Thank's for the compliments. He's VERY red these days. Your amel has some lovely white borders on the saddles twards the back there, it will be interesting to see how she comes along!!
You really need to get that baby a name!! How about Coils? Garnet? Keira? Ginger? Bell? or...how about Love in honor of our resident cornsnake celebrity, Kathy Love? lol...thats all I've got for ideas...for now.:bird:

Quick Update

Hi again,

Its been about a month since I got '09 0.1 amel and I just wanted to post a few pictures. Shes doing great, a real 'textbook' corn. She shed three days ago and it was a perfect shed with eye caps and tail piece intact. I still haven't been bitten yet so still looking forward to that. :grin01:

Thanks again to everyone for your help and advice.

I need to head over to photography to get a few tips on taking pictures. My corn just cant seem to stay still =P
