Hello from UK!

Cornmum

I know nothing
Hi There! :wavey: my family has just increased by 2 - my youngest son asked for a snake for his birthday and his elder brother bought himself one to go with. I have never had a reptile before so last night was spent wrestling with vivs and heat lamps then today we picked up our juvenile Corns. They are just adorable- one hypo and one miami and are venturing out of their hides to stare at our dogs as I speak  I'm not looking forward to feeding day but so far so good!
All help and advice will be much appreciated
Cornmum.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Sorry to say but you might as well go back and pick one up for yourself cause sounds like you have the fever :grin01:

By the way, Heat lamps are not needed for corn snakes. They tend to dry things out too much. UTH or under tank heater/heat mat are the way to go.
And are better for belly heat to help with the digestion.
Here are a few links to help out too.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Awww, you guys!

Thanks everyone, esp advice re heat lamps. When the snakes are bigger I would like to get them a posh glass tank with underfloor heating and plants- the menaline/glass front viv I bought from the shop is IMHO hideous!
It was quite funny in shop (fab place in South London full of exotic beasts and fish) my boys were left to choose which colour they wanted (they had a huge selection) and I went with assistant to buy a home for the little blighters.
"What colour would you like?" asked the young man serving, pointing to a shelf which seemed to be full of old hi-fi cabinets from the 1970's.
"Er...," sez I "can't I have something in glass with rocks and mood lighting?" I am looking around me at the beautiful tanks in the shop "Like you have in here?"
Young Man looks at me pityingly " You can't have one of those in your home you wouldn't be able to keep it warm enough. Now, pine effect or oak?"
"But they're ghastly, don't you think? Nothing on that shelf will match my decor!"
Young Man looks at me as if I just c****ed in his sock drawer. "Pine effect or oak? Or I may have a white one in the back somewhere?" Now he looks hurt and I feel bad for maligning his vivs. I think he may be about to
"Oak will be fine" I say meekly.
But I will have a designer pad for them one day I swear! This morning they are both burrowed down under their woodchips with just two tiny heads poking out. V. cute. (But I still hate the viv)

Just a quick q. are they in the same 'hi-fi' viv or seperate? You might want to check out all the co-habitation threads if so...............if not, sorry but it wasn't clear from your post

Forgot to add, yep, the vivs for sale there are yicky and retro in a really bad way! What was in the big glass viv at the counter? There were panther chameleons last time I went

He he I have draped the viv with a designer throw and added some aquarium plants and it looks much better (kind of) just to clarify my younglings are in separate boxes side by side in the viv. I didnt know about the issues with co-habitation and had specifically asked the bloke in shop if it would be ok so a bit :angry01: I may have been given duff advice on that count.
I fed them monday night!!!! They were soooo cute 'hunting' the stone dead defrosted pinkie and thrashing around with it like Tarzan and the rubber crocodile :roflmao:

sorry diamond lil - forgot to say in the shop tank I think they said they were collared lizards or something (I told you I know nothing!) they were about 3 in long and hurling themselves at the glass every time anyone walked by the tank.

so they told you the snakes would be ok together? oh bad! surprised at that, was it the boss or the helpers? Not sure what the 'collared lizards' would have been, I'm no herpexpert!
