I was asked to bring these photos here to help find out what "type" of corn Rusty is. I've had him/her since it was the size of a pencil, he's 4 ft. long now. I even bought this one @ Petco...haha...got lucky I guess...

Oh um gosh well it looks remarkably like a lava! Although would that not be impossible for a petco corn?

Hes hypomelanistic for sure though!

That's almost exactly what I posted when I see these photos in another thread. Finding a lava at a Petco would be unusual, but not impossible. Probably got tossed to a wholesaler as "just a hypo", or it may have even been mistaken for a normal as a hatchling. :shrugs: Reminds me of the pet-store dude in my town. There's no such thing as normal, hypo, snow, amel, ghost, etc.. There are red corns, black corns, gray corns, pink corns, and white corns. And he don't want to hear about no hets! :grin01:

Hes a hypo... but which type! :p Get him a het lava gal and prove him out. It would be amazing if he actually proved to be a lava!

Thank You,..now...how do you tell boy or girl?

hypomelanistic, is the going trait. I looked it up, and he looks just like those pictures. How, without going to the vet, do you find out male or female?

How can you tell the difference between a normal Hypo and a Lava, because that snake looks exactly like my hypo boy, Bandit. Maybe I'm missin something though. The whole hypo extravaganza sort of boggles my mind still though :bang:

Purddock, Bandit looks exactly like my hypo, and my hypo is a mile away from looking like that guy.

Thats a top grade hypo. And I suspect lava from the purple hues of his borders and belly checks. Also if you notice the saddle contrast is much lower than that of a hypo type A and his overall colouration is extremely vibrant.

4 years ago, it could have been very possible someone lucked on working with the lava gene and wholsaled the clutch as hypos... either way, you got lucky!

I guess I see what you're saying a little better now that you mention it. Thank you for the help Tula. :) I really appreciate it.

I posted this pic in the original thread, so I suppose I'll put it here too. My fiancee ran across this picture of a homo Xmas Hypo...
male20christmas21.jpg

Looks pretty close to me. :shrugs:

I don't highly regard christmas hypos at all, so IMO thats out of the ruling. I do not see what destinguishes the "christmas" line from normal hypos... maybe it's a strong bias.

I honestly think that animal has a strong chance of being a lava. From what I have seen, christmas hypos do not have a purple hue to their dark patches of pigment, well VERY few do these days as its apparently all been crossed out of them.

My first impression was 'Lava' too...I'm just throwing other possibilities into the mix. The only sure way of ever finding out is through testing. :grin01:
