Hello from Ca. I am glad i found this forum it has been quite a bit of help for me. I recently became the owner of a classic corn. Funny story, I am no stranger to keeping reptiles when I was young I had garter snakes and when I got to be a teenager I had moved on to pythons. I had a burmese named boots for almost 8 years she was a beautiful snake that I raised from the day out of the egg. She started to become too aggressive and after numerous bites the last being quite severe I had to let her go. :( I went many years before getting another reptile and that was in the form of a green iguana which my girlfriend found while trimming one of the bushes up against our house I did not have that one too long he got very aggressive very quick especially towards my girlfriend. That was almost 6 years ago when I got rid of him and I did not think I would have another reptile again. Well, 3 weeks ago I had just walked in the door from work and the phone rang I answered it and was met with the voice of my mother in hysterics apparently there was a snake outside in their driveway that was trying to climb up into their trailer underbody I told her I would be right there. I pulled up to their house to see my mom with her cellphone in one hand and a broom in the other every time the snake would move or rear up she would scream and use the broom to push it away  I knew exactly what it was when I pulled up I could see it under the trailer. I ran over and grabbed it to pull it out from under the trailer and it imediately curled up into my hand. I got a bucket from my parents house and placed it inside to contain it for a while. I wwent through their entire neighborhood and asked everyone if they were missing a snake and everyone said "no". I brought it home to hold for a couple of days in case the owner answered the flyers my mom had posted in the neighborhood and my girlfriend bonded with it immediately so I knew I would either be keeping this snake or buying one if the owner showed up. I still have to build a stand for the tank but luckily I kept all my iguana lights, water bowls and climbing branches. I will post some pics in a few days the snake is a classic corn almost 3.5 feet long it has perfect coloration and is perfect with no scars or blemishes. It is very friendly and loves to be held it is eating very healthily 1 rat pup per week I am placing an order with rodentpro (glad I found this forum)next week. I am using newspaper right now but am interested in what everyone would recommend for substrate.

Thanks,
Jeff

Welcome to the forums!
There are alot of very knowledgable people here,
and many of us from SoCal also.
I use shredded aspen as substrate for my 75 snakes,
easy to clean and very absorbent.

FYI... Pics are mandatory around here.. LOL

Hi Jeff, welcome.
Nice find, and we know it isn't just your girlfriend that wants to keep it. It's okay, you can say so, we're all like that.

Yeah, I was already planning to keep it if no one claimed it but the fact the my girlfriend was not freaked out by it and was stoked about having a snake made me certain I would keep it.
