My name is cassandra and i am the proud owner of Zoey. i have loved all snakes since i was a little girl. My husband bought me my very first corn snake ( first snake ever) for valentines day this year...his name was charlie, I researched and followed all the directions i was given, i thought i was doing fine, but the more i read the more i realized something was not right with charlie, he did not act like you would think a snake would act, he was not curious, he really never did anything. shortly after this he died, the vet said he was just sick from the get go and there was nothing anyone could do,my husband got charlie from petco, after this incident we heard alot of negitive things about how petco cares for there snakes, noone really specified on how they care for them, but i was heart broken and my mom went and got me zoey, now that i have her i see how truely sick charlie was from the start, she is strong as an ox and curious about everything, she doese laps around that cage and acts just like i though a snake would act, I am doing everything i can to be a responsible, informed owner if anyone has any little tricks or advice about anything, it is very much welcomed.I am so excited about watching her grow and everything i will learn about her. thank you all

Hi there, welcome to the forum. Hope you enjoy it here :) It's a great site. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'm glad the loss of Charlie didn't scare you off snakes. i lost my first baby within the first week. Sorry for your loss

Hey there,
Welcome to the forum. I was on chat last night and I hoped you saw how valuable that can be. We're here to help :D you mentioned you were going to feed her today, how did that go?

Feed F/T (frozen->thawed) mice, clean water everyday, follow the munson feeding chart, pay close attention to temps and humidity, pay attention to make sure sheds go well, spot clean at least once a day(full clean once a month), and that should keep your snake pretty happy. Good luck!

well...

So for some crazy reason i thought today was Thursday which is when Zoey is d/t eat. however i have a slight problem. today i went to pet-smart and got a new tank b/c i had a 20 gal short and needed the bigger tank. while we where there my sister asked one of the employee's if she could hold one of the snakes and the lady told her no b/c they are treating them for mites and if she wanted to buy one she would have to wait. i then informed the lady that i had just got a snake from that tank 4 days ago, when i got home i checked Zoey thoroughly, i found a mite just 1 so i am taking her in tomorrow to make them treat her. should i still feed her tomorrow or is that not a good idea, what do i need to watch for after she is treated. after Charlie died i'm just freaking out b/c i'm afraid of something happening to Zoey? ahhh what do i do?????

Hey Caeeandra, welcome to the forum..
Sorry i can't help u with this since i lack experience, but for sure ppl here will help u as much as they can.
Hope ur snake will be healthy soon :)

Sorry to hear about the mites. If Petsmart will not treat them there is a lot of great info in this board on how to get rid of the little buggers. Make sure you empty out and sterilize your viv. before you put your baby back in.
