HELP - Corn snake caught in tape

My snake got out of his cage and managed to make his way to the boxes I was unpacking before I went out of town and now he's got himself good and taped. Been out of town since Sunday afternoon and got back an hour ago so god knows how long he's been there. I let him soak for a few minutes in some room temp water just deep enough to cover the tape - not his face - and now i'm using Qtips and vegetable oil. Anything else i can do???

You are doing exactly what I would have done.

Thank you for verifying I was doing the right thing. I was panicked because I've never had this happen and the thought of this never crossed my mind - I'm so glad it was tape instead of my cats. I didn't have the lid on tight enough it appears. He was fighting for all he was worth the whole time, but true to himself, never once bit or struck at me - thankfully. He's off and I let him run through the water for a few minutes, then took him back to a fresh cage with completely replaced bedding and he's currently in his hide. He's acting no worse for the wear, but I'll keep a close eye on him over the next few days. I had tried calling a vet to ask for help and she was in surgery but the assistant told me to just "pull it off" so I obviously ignored that. Then I called LLL reptiles (my nearest reputable reptile store) and they told me to bring him in if I can't get it and they'll do what they can. Then, of course, my computer crashed so i had to use my phone (which it appears I'll be paying extra for using internet service this month) and long story short, I was completely panicking. Thank you for verifying I was doing the right thing though

Glad to hear you got him free without any harm. Here's hoping it wasn't too traumatizing. Can snakes even get traumatized? It seems weird an animal so prone to stress but completely oblivious to any other emotion or psychological concepts.

From what I can see, he's not even missing any scales. I think I could almost have been more scared than him in the beginning. Then I started talking to him to help soothe him, and the entire time I was telling him how he is definitely not going to be the prettiest snake around anymore - especially with the dying/dead tail tip from the stuck shed he had when I got him. By the end though, we worked out a pattern. He wriggled his head while i worked on the neck so he got free relatively easy! If I never have to free a snake from tape again, it's still one time too many

Did you find the reason he escaped? If not he will likely do so again.
These guys are true experts at escape.

Best of luck!

yeah, there was a tiny gap in the lid we didn't catch. We took some mesh and aquarium sealant and now the hole is covered by mesh to prevent further escapes. He's acting just fine so I'm not sure if I should feed him or not this week. Today is his usual feeding day so I'm not sure if I should skip or not. I think I'll offer it to him and let him decide if he wants to. He's acting no worse for the wear and I don't see any marks or anything on him. Thank god he's okay, I was really terrified when I found him missing. I swear I've checked on him every hour or two since his escape
