Help! I have a regurg!!

Fed her Tuesday and she had a regurg today (Friday). I suspect she is about to shed. She's a snow so I really can't tell by her eyes or by the dull skin. Her last shed was 7 weeks ago. Also, she's about 5 or 6 months old. Another thing I should note, I always buy my Pinkies frozen from Petco that are prepackaged. This week I went down to the reptile shop by my house. (really awesome place btw) and got 3 frozen pinkies from them. They breed the mice and knock them out and freeze them all at the shop. So I don't know if maybe feeding her mice that were "freshly frozen" (if that makes sense) rather than ones packed up and frozen for who knows how long (like she used to) has anything to do with it

I read some other posts and answers about regurg so i'm confident at what the next step is. I'm mostly just curious as to if the pray bought from another place was a bad idea and if it is a common thing to regurg near a shed.

It's not uncommon for a snake to regurge when fed while blue. If the alternate prey was the same size, I'm sure it was fine.

I highly doubt that the mice change would have caused the issue. I switch mine around all the time from my own, to some I buy at the expo, to a friend of mine who supplies most of my rodents, to the crappy petstore in town, to petco mice with no issues. I have too many snakes to keep my freezer stocked with my friends mice and my own at the moment, and I haven't seen any difference in the snakes at all.
Was there a significant size difference in what you were feeding? And what are your temps like? Since you read other posts I assume you know the next step is waiting 10-14 days before the next feeding, and using a pinkie head only with benebac if possible.

Her temps are consistanly at 85 and 81 at night. She did eat one of the prey from the new place the feeding before last with no problems. The new prey is a little bigger than from the ones that are pre packaged. It was about 1 and 1/2 her size. Usually the pinkies in the package from the petstore look smaller and sometimes i think they are too small. But she isn't big enough to eat fuzzies. I did read to wait 10 - 14 days before feeding her again. Shes always been such a great eater when she is about to shed so I was more surprised than anything when I saw a little half digested redolent.

Yeah, I definitely don't think that the mice had anything to do with it then, Nanci is probably correct that it is from her being in blue! Hope that the next feeding goes well, I'd still follow the regurge protocol.

It sounds like it was probably due to blue. Other things to check are that you thawed the pinky completely before feeding it and that the snake is not unduly stressed out after eating (excessive handling / lack of hides, for example). I would still do regurge protocol for sure. I have in fact, since I had almost exactly the same issue. I actually switched pinky brands because of it (Sherlock has gotten all picky and wary of food after the regurge).

Funny you should ask about if it was thawed all the way. I had the pinkie running under warm water and after a few minutes (the normal time it takes to thaw) I checked it and it was still a little cold so I ran it under warn water again and for a little longer than normal to be 100% sure it was thawed all the way through. When I checked the pinkie it was actually pretty hot so I had to let it cool off for a minute before I fed her. So I know it was thawed all the way through. I haven't been handling her as much in the last couple weeks because we've been trying the Muson plan and feeding every 5 days which, if giving 3 days to digest before handling, doesn't leave much time to take her out. Also her viv is like a jungle!! There's plants and hides everywhere! Things she can curl all the way up in and be touching all sides with her body. And larger hides that I put plants in so she could still feel safe inside.

Excellent! Then it sounds like you are doing everything right and it was indeed probably just blue-ness. Keep us posted if she sheds soon. And be aware that if you are using benebac/nutribac now the stools might look a bit different: can be disturbing when you are all paranoid about whether it's a second regurge, but perfectly normal.

That's very helpful info thank you! Cause I'm sire I would have been in there touching it making sure its poop! Ha I just went in to check on her through the glass when she saw me she started rattling her tail and even got into her S shape so I'm sure she is in blue.

She's not really "out" she's hiding behind some trees in the back of her viv. I can see her from the side just through a small window of shrubbery.

Still no shed. She's definitely laying low though. Always hiding even at night when she's usually out. And about 3 weeks ago she was out during the day a lot for about 2 days. I have a little house in there for her and she loves it! I peeked in at her (from outside the viv) and she popped out though the window trying to strike. (which looked pretty funny) So I just left her alone. She did this last time she was going into shed and it took her about a week from the time I noticed her being scared like that. It was a great full shed all in one piece though.

SOMETHING HORRIBLE HAS HAPPENED!!!!!!! So I was waiting to feed her after the regure. and she was diefinitly in Blue because she started striking a lot and her eyes were not bright pink. I checked on her last night and she was in her hide on the cool side. This morning at 5:30am I was getting up and checked on her. She was dead! She was outside of her hide and is biting on a tree leaf in her viv. It looks like maybe she got scared since she can't see well and struck at it and got stuck and suffocated. I'm super sad!! And I don't know what to do with her little body. I don't want to bury her cause the bugs will eat her and I don't want to just throw her away. :( I'm just so confused and really upset!

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry! No one could have predicted that. Had you had her a long time? Poor baby! I doubt she suffocated. Snakes can extend their breathing tube out (so they can breathe while their mouth is full) and it would be very difficult to block that off. More likely she was having some sort of spasm when she died and bit the plant.

Well, it's just not your fault. For sure a very rare circumstance, and I don't believe you did anything wrong or could have prevented it. The regurge was probably a symptom of whatever killed her- something internal.

You could wrap her in something warm and snuggly and put that in a ziplock bag, in a little box, and bury it somewhere special if you don't want her to go back to the earth, but it would be more natural to just wrap her in a paper towel and bury her, again, somewhere meaningful to you, with maybe a stone to mark her grave.

You may be so sad you don't want to get another baby right away, but when you do, before you do, just disinfect all her stuff with a 20% bleach solution and then rinse very well with plain water. It will feel better when you get another snake. This is so rare; chances of it happening again are almost zero.

I'm sorry...

Iam very sorry for your lost sounds like she had something else going on with her so like Nanci said it was not your fault this does seem very rare. My thoughts are with you and try not to beat yourself up over this.

I've decides to bury her in a little box with her favorite hide. It's a cute little house she is always in. and maybe I will put her in a sock so I feel like she is cophortable. Sounds dumb I know. I can't do anything till I get home from work tonight so input a towel over her viv for now.

I got her in August. She was 3 months old when I get her. I really was not ready for that at all. She was so healthy looking. Gaining weight at a healthy rate. Didn't look skinny or sick. And always active except when she is going into a shed. I am going to wait a little bit before getting another snake. I am going to disinfect and clean everything out when I get home today from work. When I get Internet set up at my new house I will post pictures of the first day we got her.

Thank you for the help with the regurge and the advice on her passing away.

Thank you very much. I'm going to wait Till after the holidays to get another corn. But I will still be actively reading the forum to continue to gain knowledge.
