Help Identifying Snake Please!

Hi, This is my friends snake and he/she is called Merlin. They got it after another friends daughter left for uni and didn't care about the snake anymore. It was in really poor condition when they got it but my friend seems to be doing a good job so far. It does have a few scars down near the end of the tail, I'm not sure but they might be burns and they don't seem to affect Merlin at all, whatever they are, they are old.

Phil (The man they got it off) said he thought it was a corn snake but he didn't seem 100% positive. So the question is, what is it :shrugs:

I've had a look through pages and pages of topics on this forum looking at different types and trying to decide. IMO it looks more like a Blizzard but it's yellow stripes are a lot more vibrant than others I have seen on here.

Another thing is that the head seems a different shape from a cornsnake, so it may be a completly different type of snake altogether.

Ok, Now for the pics :D

You've got a nice adult albino California kingsnake there; not a cornsnake at all.

from owning some kingsnakes in the past -
it looks like a albino california kingsnake or something in the kingsnake family...

That's a stunning animal. I wouldn't mind owning one of those myself.

Thanks for the quick replies people, only one more question now really. How long can Kingsnakes get?? Do they grow to about the same size as cornsnakes or bigger, not that it'll be a problem, just would be nice to know.

Thanks again

Yep, these people know their stuff. Merlin looks like a bigger version of the lav-albino Cali I picked up a couple of months ago. Are you thinking of stealing him? ;)

Stunning Snakes!!!

I actually saw an Albino-lav King at the petshop (reputable place) where I get my mice from...

I am a total corn nut and haven't really ever wanted anything else but WOW! That guy sure changed my mind!!! lol If I had the cash I would've bought him right there and then!! Drool!!!!!

Ya, I had no plans for it, but I'm picking one up this weekend at the Tinley Expo :grin01: And Dean, your snake just sealed the deal

both are very nice.............and infinite, tell your friend "good job" for taking over an unwanted snake. couldn't have been a better one to stumble on.

@ Roy Munson - Am I thinking of stealing it  mayyyyyyyybe, I'm doing my best, lol

When I told her it was a Kingsnake she thought it was poisonous and said I could have it, but I couldn't be so cruel and let her think that, maybe I should have just taken Merlin and ran though. :grin01:

I have a cali king and he is my favorite out of all my snakes. Hes got a HUGE appetite (no surprise for a king snake), hes always out cruising his viv, and he very mellow. I hope to pick up another in the near future. That one you have Dean makes me think of picking one up like him. There is a show here in Denver in a few weeks, hmmm.
